Re: Scoot Henderson
Given how much space defenders have given Scoot this season (due to him being a non-shooting threat), Scoot hasn't had too many opportunities to blow by defenders with his first step. That said, recently his shot has started falling a little more and defenders seem to be playing him a little tighter. In these circumstances Scoot has shown the ability to blow by his defender and get to his spot on the elbow.
In the past month the game has slowed down for him and he has shown improved body control. He's now mixing speeds like Shai, using hesitation to get defenders off balance before blowing by them.
His improvement has been rapid. He looks much more composed than he did pre-injury.

15-3-5 and shot 35% from three in the month of December. It's classic realgm to dance on a 19 year old's grave weeks into his rookie season.

The 1 year age gap should've given them pause, but no. It's all about the victory dance and the quest to convince a bunch of anonymous strangers, hey I'm always right! Don't bother presenting an alternative viewpoint!
Scoot is going to run his own team. Miller will never do that. Brandon will need to grow into a #1 scorer for a playoff team in order to justify passing on Scoot's impact. But I think Miller looks like a potential #1 option. I feel better about his selection but you won't ever find me dancing on the grave of Scoot.

I mean his 2pt% isn't really improving much, I think it's gotten worse actually from earlier in the season. So I'm not sure how much more he's really finishing at the rim and the stuff about his mixed speeds is really helping him, outside of being more under control. He's real stat improvements seem to come from some streaky 40%+ three point shooting and reduced turnovers. The part of me who is enjoying his highlights does really like the change of speed stuff though.

Let's playin for 9th!

I’ve watched every game I could this year.
Scoot is still a weak shooter with sloppy handles and unremarkable vision.
He can’t really finish and drives into trouble without a plan for getting out of trouble.
There is no substitute for game time experience though.
He might really benefit from a big man willing and able to set quality screens.
There are -no- good screeners on POR. Ayton is a cream puff and no one has the size/bulk/brains to make that work.

Wonder if there's been a guard prospect that started his career at a Scoot like level (45 TS%, 1.46 A/TO Ratio) and became an Asllstar?
Only 24 games so very small sample, but interesting to think about other young high ceiling type guards that made huge improvements after shaky starts.

Garland shot just under 50% TS with a A:T barely over 1. Someone posted a few weeks ago some stats of other guys who started slow. The moral of the story is just be patient. Seen this way too many times when people give up on guys after they literally just started their careers. But surely as there are guys like BigJ and JMAC that feel the need to take laps, cherry pick and pat themselves on the back we’ll keep doing this over and over again until it gets old for everyone.

Following up on that in December he shot 49.1% TS, 35% on 3s and 87% from the line. If he had done this in October and November I doubt BigJ and JMAC would be bringing the same energy here.

And if my grandma had wheels she would be a bike... coulda shoulda woulda... he didn't.
This is cherry picking his best stretch of games and it still isn't good.
49% TS would rank 196 out of 199 qualified players.
Scoot for the season has a 46% TS, which is 199th out of 199 qualified players.
He shot 39% from the field in December and you are acting like we should all be ready to crown him.
He had some good games, but it was mostly built around volume. If you are going to shoot the ball 18+ times you should be able to score 17-21 pts most nights.

Re: Scoot Henderson
Scoot has been playing better lately, but that is because he really could only go up with how bad he was.
Seems like Portland has given him the keys to offense more, which has led to some larger assist games.
He has been drawing more fouls, which I think is what has been the best sign if any from this last 10 games or so.
He still was only at 40% from 2 in December, which makes sense given his overall shooting % was still sub 40 despite a spike in 3 pt shooting.

There's so much cope here. Bottom line is he had a rough start and like most young players he's improving. We can't really know what he's going to be or exactly how high his ceiling is until he stops improving. And that's likely not any time very soon. So if you and BigJ want to keep bringing us box scores and taking laps after every bad game or stretch of bad games, I'm here for it. At some point I think even you guys will get tired of it though. One can certainly hope, at least.

You and Clyde are out in full force when Scoot has a good game, I guess laptaking is a 1 way street that you aren't ever guilty of lol

I only come here to provide balance like Thanos. I said several times before when you stop lap taking so will I.
