Stat padding my ass , if you watched LSU closely it was the opposite , a few jealous teammates tried extra hard
to keep the ball out of Simmons hands.
Ben had to get most of his points starting from his own defensive rebounds then doing his best Lebron impersanation
streak down the court and finishing with monster jams.

That is something to take into consideration, Simmons did not touch the ball as much as he should have.

A great player putting great numbers on the bad team isn't stat padding, that's really poor use of the word stat pad.

I do think it is a mistake to look too deeply into Simmons boxscore, or any NCAA prospects for that matter.

If he becomes a laker I will be happy if we get Ingram I will be happy. Either way I'm going to be happy

In fairness to Givony, Ben Simmons was pretty brutal on the defensive side of the ball.

Most metrics suggest Simmons was more than passable on the other end, but the eyetest says otherwise...

Yup. If you just watch him you can see he didn't play defense well. He got blown by way to much the few times he was on the perimeter and gave no rim protection at all. The dude definitely has a really high IQ which allows him to play the passing lanes so well which allows him to get his steals

Quite a few times Ben was in foul trouble early in games. I agree that he gave up on plays but LSU needed him on the floor. He and Craig Victor were that team's only legitimate inside threats and Victor was hugely foul prone.
So yes, he gave up on plays but it wouldn't surprise me if he was instructed to do so. Who else were they gong to rely on if Ben was sitting with fouls? When Ben was focused on defending, he was good at it

So Simmons is a bad defender? That's contrary to his DBPM and what Thorpe said how he can be a potential DPOY like Kawhi.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Got backe down way too easily in the post, lost on helpside rotations cutting off penetration, didn't always close out, below average wingspan/standing reach for a 4 who won't body up and doesn't provide much interior rim protection. Thorpe is outta his mind I'll have whatever he's smoking. Touting Simmons to be some lockdown one on one defender who can be left on an "island: but he has some promise as a team defender in space with his nimble feet/lateral agility

Thorpe also thinks Corey Brewer is a great defender.

Most of that seems like stuff that he definitely knows how to do (since he played with a big-time HS coaching) and just didn't. I didn't like his too-cool-for-school stuff, but I'm optimistic that it was just about that--school. Once he's playing against guys who are as good as him all the time and whom he can't punk, I'm hoping he'll realize he actually has to try on every play to be even a decent player.

Being nimble, strong, and having a great IQ + quickness are good reasons to be optimistic about his D. Also, if his wingspan is indeed a little over 7' (like the latest LSU entry on DX says), then he's in the average to a bit above average zone. Even if he's actually more like 6'11, the difference between that and a more average 7'0 is pretty tiny, won't make/break him or anyone else as a defender.

Simmons was always number 1. He never dropped. People just were trying to make it dramatic. Never a doubt Simmons would be the best prospect and get picked first.

Nope, he's still #2 on their big board. He's just #1 on their mock draft which they base on what they think teams will do with their pick. DX still has Ingram as the better prospect while Chad Ford has Simmons #1

That's the thing though...would the player put up the same caliber of stats on a better team. This is the same argument people were having with Kevin Love. The same argument people make about Demarcus Cousins etc.

That's pretty much the text book definition of stat padding.

Ben Simmons looks like a second round prospect based on Draftexpress' weaknesses video. They really hate the guy it seems

It's his weakness video. All the players look like 2nd round prospects in their weakness videos

just wanted to drop that here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X90mxVM_160

It really looks like he worked ALOT on his shot recently. The weird "hitch" he had seems to be gone. Looks much, much smoother now.

Honestly i still think given how his shot looks here... Ben could very well already!! be a better shooter than most people think. I mean he obviously wont be a sniper but considering most people think he has NO Jumper at all... even beeing able to Knock down wide open Jumpers would be a helluva suprise.

When it comes to professional basketball players, if they do not knock down at least 5 shots from the same spot then it's a troubling video to post. :noway:
