I'm guilty of supporting them since I watch all their videos but it doesn't change the fact that pre-draft time is rife with complete frauds with zero sources except their fellow Youtubers whose sources are sourceless team beat writers pontificating endlessly about who they're hearing is a target for whatever team they're discussing. Literally none of them know anything lmao and they're all so bad at evaluating prospects too. But yet, I still watch them like an idiot. I especially like the "I'm hearing...." about something that is breaking news across social media as if they've got intimate knowledge texted to them. Gotta love draft season!

Through some analysis, I found a player whose career fits closest to the Averages of Players taken at each lottery draft position since 2000.

#1: John Wall
#2: Emeka Okafor
#3: Bradley Beal
#4: Drew Gooden
#5: Ricky Rubio
#6: Josh Childress
#7: Eric Gordon
#8: T.J. Ford
#9: D.J. Augustin
#10: Brandon Jennings
#11: Andris Biedriņš
#12: Luke Kennard
#13: Markieff Morris
#14: T.J. Warren

The median outcome for all the picks can be a bit disappointing.

Great idea actually.

Would cool to see it in 5 year sections rather than past 25 years. If like to know how the draft may be evolving over time

My 'guy not predicted to get drafted that sneaks into R2' for tonight is Igor Milicic JR.

Who do you have?

Tier 1 - Flagg went 1st
Tier 2 - Harper went 2nd
Tier 3 - Coward went 11th
Tier 3.5 - all went in the lottery.
Tier 4- most went on day 1. Some are still on the board.
Tier 5 - Hansen Yang went 16th. His upside did give him some room with the comp of shades of Divac.

I loved the Queen pick more than the Fears one. The trade was insane. Probably one of the worst I've seen in awhile and we traded Bogi for Terrance Mann and 3 2nds. Then had to trade a 1st to get off of Mann contract 4 months later.

I really wish Denver had the ammo to trade for Maxime Raynaud in round 2. He would be a perfect backup. Ugh, thanks Booth.

He seems to fall down a lot. Not sure he’s physical enough. That was one of Wiseman’s biggest problems. For such a big man he was way too gentle.

Would you really expect someone who has only played the sport for 4 years to have an extremely high basketball IQ?

TBF we have a lot of players get drafted with little basketball experience and they just do not improve enough to be functional in the NBA. I did catch some Beringer games this year and I like his defensive instincts, but I think it is pretty fair to be skeptical.

Sure, but I would say he has shown a decent learning curve so far. I get that he's not all the way there, but I certainly think he can get to that point.

I think it is a lot different to show meaningful improvement in the NBA. You can improve a skill a ton and it still won't matter at that level. Here are my feelings on him, though:

Beringer is really interesting because he is so mobile and athletic. He shows reasonably good defensive feel, but also makes up for some of his mistakes because of his athleticism and length. Offensively he is incredibly raw. He doesn't consistently set good screens, his chest passes look weird, watching him shoot free throws is physically painful. But he has reasonably soft hands and gets points on putbacks, lobs, good off-ball movement, and the occasional play where the defense breaks down and he can do a one dribble drive. Can take off from pretty far away from the rim and dunk it. One thing I will say is that he has developed quickly which gives some hope that even moderate still development with his athleticism will result in a great player. I watched him play Partizan Belgrade which is filled with ex-NBA talent (Carlik Jones, Aleksej Pokusevski, Isaac Bonga, Frank Ntilikina, Duane Washington, Sterling Brown, Brandon Davies) and his athleticism popped. He didn't look out of place among those players, either, so I think he can carve out a deep bench niche even if there isn't a ton of development. I could see him being an excellent defensive center who is really switchable and cleans up on putbacks and ally-oops - hence the Capela comparison - but there are big differences in their body types.

Really interesting physical comparison:

6-foot-11, 234.8 lbs, 7-foot-4.5 wingspan, 9-foot-3 standing reach, 9.75 hand size = Joan Beringer
6-foot-9.75, 236 lbs, 7-foot-5.25 wingspan, 9-foot-2 standing reach, 10.00 hand size = Jaren Jackson Jr.
