Re: Scoot Henderson
You guys should stop overrate athleticism as it's useless without other important aspects, like basketball iq, actual basketball talent.

Scoot did show a lot of IQ and talent in the G-League though. It just hasn't translated and he seems like a deer in the headlights 45 games into his rookie year.

Re: Scoot Henderson
Russilo had a convo with Jalen Suggs last week about Scoot and it seemed like he has talked himself into still being on Scoot bandwagon because of Suggs improvement.
Suggs is just such a different player from a defensive standpoint that even when he was awful on offense there was an excuse to keep him on the floor. Also, with his size being able to play the 1/2 I think really helps with his value to a team.
This was part of the reason I was a bit lower on Scoot because if being an awesome helio centric pg didn't work he didn't really have the shooting or defense to really scale back into a successful smaller role.

Re: Scoot Henderson
Super rambly post, feel free to ignore it.
Lap taking is at an all time high right now in this thread. More from Jimmy McMillan (the rent is too damn high) at eleven.
He seemed to be relying on his three point shot for some offensive efficiency for a while, but that seems to have regressed a bit with 25% shooting over his last 11. I mean you couldn't rely on expert three point shooting to hold up. Turnovers still very high for a guy getting 11 points a game and 3.5 assists with 2.7 turnovers a game. I'm wondering if there's a good historical comparisons for guys coming into the league not producing a lot on offense but with 3 turnovers a game.
I thought White Chocolate might be a good comparison but he came into the league at age 23, and had 6 assists to about 3 turnovers, so not a good comparison especially in terms of age. Eventually he became a solid Ast:Turnover guy, he cut back on turnovers in year three.
Derrick Rose came into the league at 20, but obviously he was pretty solid 17/6 assists per to just 2.5 turnovers. Not fair comparisons, but Kidd was turnover prone, but was like 8 assists per game as a rookie, and 10 assists and 4 turnovers in his second year, people would complain about his turnovers and inefficiency back then lol, he cut down turnovers in year three.
I'm probably just ignorant but im curious who the guys who've come into the league averaging a lot of turnovers and whether or not they've gone on to have solid careers. Cade Cunningham I guess, too early to say there. Suggs, a good example, he seemed to have turned into more of a three point specialist than a true point guard, which is kind of odd since he struggled mightily to shoot his rookie year.

Guys like Clyde were trying to sell us on him being a Derrick Rose / Ja Morant type of athlete that would dominate from day 1. This is why it's important not to buy the hype rather than watch the film.

Guys like Clyde...or Clyde? Literally he's the only one you ever mention as your arch nemesis. It's so ridiculous bro. Seriously, when are you going to get over it?

why are you always jumping to defend Clyde. He's a big boy. Seriously, it's happened a lot? I'm also someone who is higher on Scoot than most, I can take my lumps for it not looking so hot. J wouldn't be going so hard if guys didn't go after him so much and because they did he deserves the right to gloat, even if it's maybe premature.

Who was defending Clyde? Seems like you are not comprehending what you are reading. I was not defending Clyde at all. I was railing against Big J for repeatedly using Clyde as an excuse for lap taking. Clyde is apparently the (literally) sole reason Big J feels he can come in here and take laps after every bad Scoot game. It makes no sense. I have no memory of what Clyde said because he has been blocked by me for like the last two years.

Compare him to someone like Jalen Green and it's not even close though.

So you're either Jalen Green or sasquatch?
How many point guards Scoot's size (which I'm told is tiny) are doing that dunk in the league right now?
Ja...Russ on a good day...who else?

Re: Scoot Henderson
At the end of the day Scoot is an obviously good to very good NBA athlete, probably 90%-ile, not 99%-ile of NBA point guards. That's enough athleticism combined with his strength to give him a physical advantage. Is he Ja? Can't explode like Ja, but he is definitely stronger than Ja. Not even a question. We said all these things before the draft but dudes like Big J fixated on literally a single comparison made by apparently a single poster here.
Scoot's athleticism ended up being so overrated it was probably underrated in the end.

I mean come on, if any other point guard in the NBA does this dunk, Big J is giving him a standing ovation

He had a nice dunk last night too. https://streamable.com/nqc73g
I think the unathletic mentions are almost purely because someone made note that he didn't dunk a lot. It's true he doesn't dunk a lot, but when he does he really gets up there. It seems to be more of an aversion to contact than an inability to do it. Which is a whole different can of worms, but one he can hopefully overcome.
Last 2 games have been good from him, he lit up the bucks in the first half then barely played in the second lol

Re: Scoot Henderson
2 good games, blows up thread.. but again don't forget dude hates laptaking lol. Nobody in the thread said he wasn't athletic. What was said is he isn't someone who is so athletic that he can't fail and that he will have to be a much much better shooter to be successful.
So yes if you want to put a random number like 90th percentile to make yourself feel better then right on.
90th percentile athlete
18th percentile offensive player
5th percentile defender
5th percentile overall in EPM
100th percentile in EvanZ heart
Realgm priceless
