im pro gun ownership but you don't scratch off a reg # on a firearm not legally bought by you and then conceal it...just stupidity, and his stock doesn't allow him to do stupid ****.

he has way too much on the line to be acting like a clown. what are you doing riding around with a concealed weapon anyway? go play basketball.

How do you know he personally scratched off the reg#? Someone else could have scratched it off and gave it to him as a gift. Kids are dumb and don't know better if they have been playing ball all their life.

oh yea perfectly normal to accept unreg'd or tampered with guns as a gift, I'm sure all of us did that when we were 18

Most 18 year olders probably don't know jack **** about gun registration laws. My point is that it could have been simply due to ignorance.

It seems like youre going way out of your way to come up with excuses for this. While the most simple answer is the most likely answer. Emoni was an idiot and got caught. And also to be clear, this isnt a case of being 18 and the cops showing up at a house party with alcohol. I think if Emoni Bates got arrested for underage drinking, I dont think anywhere hear would bat an eye. But this is a legit felony charge.

Also if what his lawyer is saying is correct and Bates was just boring a friends car. Well guess what, he's making horrible life decisions on who he is hanging out with if his buddies have guns with their #s scratched off. Also not a normal situation you will find most 18 year olds in. And even if you dont want to compare his life to a normal 18 year old and we compare him to famous NBA prospects. We dont see too many of those get into these situations and the ones we do, tend to have off court issues the majority of their career.

What if this guy who had the guns with the #'s scratched off was a family member or something?

Everything you said is right but it is a significantly--and I mean significantly small chance.

Typically when you have to go through the amount of hoops you are jumping through then it isn't true.

The simplest answer is often the right answer.

I don’t know man. I blame his father more than I can blame an 18 year older. He needs a better support group around him. Sounds like he’s got some shady dudes giving him advice.

I can understand that some people dont have it fair and get born into situations where they are surrounded by bad influence. That doesnt take away responsibility. He is potentially going to get hundreds of thousands as a SRP, taking the most generous interpretation of this and saying he is simply an idiot still means your giving an idiot tons of money, already surrounded by poor influences and with a skillset on the court that isnt anything to write home about.

Taking the externalities into the equation, he isnt worth the trouble.

he can be surrounded by stupid people but he could also be stupid. both things can, and are likely, true. doesnt mean he can't have his own agency. just b/c hes 18 doesnt mean he cant think for himself. it doesnt take a genius to figure out that driving around with a conceled and tampered with weapon is not a great idea. you don't gotta be an Einstein here.

he's also always had this iffy personality in general, so tbh this isn't that surprising.

I mean this is ultimately what it boils down to. If he looked like a young KD, someone would still take a flier on him. It's the combo of disappointing on-court performance and serial bad decision making off it.

It’s not a game. I’m just for giving young kids a second chance. Nobody here even knows the facts and they are already rushing to judgment.

You joined in 2020...so you're what, 19 or 20 now?

Did you take a ton of shrooms and have an epiphany or something in the past 24 months?
