Don't even think his offense is good. He was incredibly inefficient in AAU (with bad shot selectiono) and was only efficient in college because of him being essentially a paint big (and dominating tiny teams), though he did take a few jumpers (including some post fades that looked smooth and did a nice job turning away from DTs, but he had the mismatch). He's always thought he was a unicorn, which worries me a bit. Not a passer, either. I just don't think he's talented. Good rim runner, but agree with him not being a freak athlete - takes him a while to load.

Issues concerning his footwork, D in space (especially PnR), awareness (though improved from AAU).

We gotta stop calling one shoe tournament AAU. EYBL is just one tournament as is Peach Jam. They play a lot more games during the AAU season

I kind of assumed everyone understood what I meant, but ok. He was horribly inefficient in EYBL and was simply inefficient at Peach Jam. My point stands.

Yeah man - don't see that often in college games. I turned to watch the Aussie Open and was treated to that

Hurt is 2 or 3 and done but when he enters, he got Davis Bertrans potential. Too small for the NBA right now and needs to be a sharp.

OAD - Carey and maybe Stanley
2AD - Hurt
IDK - Moore

I bet he gets something for darting in there and shoving people. But yeah nothing like some others. You can't stomp heads in that setting ever and not get hauled away. There were people in street clothes who will be filing law suites for sure.

Ridiculously solid and will likely have a long career in the league but not a ton of upside. he looks like he'll be what he is. McDaniels offers more upside but if it doesnt click for him Stewart will have the better career.

Why doesn’t Stewart have a ton of upside? He’s only a freshman. He’s a solid free throw shooter so becoming a decent three point shooter isn’t out of the question.

just adding that one element wouldn't make him your primary focal point. He's a physical energy guy and projects to be that at the next level. I think he learns how to use his body better, becomes more efficient, maybe adds a reliable PnP mid-range and extends out to three ala Horford at best. Not terribly bouncy, pretty low on the ball handling spectrum, haven't seen a ton of reads and passing out the post (not to say he can't, just haven't seen that element) active on defense but McDaniels looks to be the better prospect on that end. He's a plug-in role player in the league. Solid in all the facets you want your big man to be solid in but doesn't look to have the base to do any of those outlier bigman things.

yea, I just don't see his path as a starting level C, his defense is pretty bad and it'll probably only get worse in the NBA with more spacing, don't think he's good enough offensively to really offset it either...i think he'll find a niche as a 3rd or 4th big off the bench as a scoring big but that's about...he'll always be kinda useful tho because he's a big that can hit some 3s so he'll stick around for a while just based on that...but he's not a top20 guy to me

Any chance if Vernon loses 10 pounds that he can't be on a similar path to Domantas Sabonis?

For me, Stewart just isn't a good enough athlete. Young Horford was one of the fastest bigs in the NBA. For me, Stewart is like a more advanced, this gen version of Horace Grant. He has value but you know he will never be more than a 4th or 5th option in the NBA but doesn't offer the defensive upside of someone like Okongwu

possibly, but Sabonis is really good at a lot of the nuances that it's hard to project for Vernon, Sabonis is now probably one of the best passing bigs in the NBA, a really good screen setter/picker, can not only roll but also pop, has turned into a good mid range guy on top of being a functional 3pt shooter so he's a legit 3 level scorer right now...all of these offsets his deficiencies on defense

not saying Vern can't get there but that's a lot of projection for me to take him top20 or so

People at Duke expect Moore to be the most likely to return out of all the freshmen. Moore has shown no transferable NBA skills at the moment.

Tre, Vern and Cassius are 100% gone. I think Moore and Hurt all depend on if they can put together some momentum in the ACC tournament and March Madness. Right now I wouldn't be shocked if neither have even a 2nd round grade.
