Not really. 1st round picks are given a 4-year contract. Depending on high you drafted, you get more money. Doncic would make more money on his rookie scale than over there..unless a team decides to pay him $8,000,000+ for the next 4 years. No clue how taxes work in Europe, but they are not nearly as much in the US.
So after the 4 year deal, the player is offered a "qualifying offer" which makes them a restricted free agent, meaning the team retains their rights to match any contract offered to the player from a different team. He becomes a free agent and anyone is open to sign him, but the drafted team has his rights. If the player decides he doesn't want to play for the team anymore, he can ask the team to let him go. If this happens, the opposing team trying to get the player will need to give the drafted team an incentive to NOT match the offer and keep the player(usually a role player, 2nd round pick, or sometimes a starting player).
HOWEVER, all of this free agency can be avoided IF he signs that qualifying offer($3-5million). The qualify offer is a 1 year deal which he signs with the team that drafted him. After 1 year, he becomes an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with whatever team he likes.
So in reality, they only control a player's rights for up to 5 years. Players usually don't take the qualifying offer because they're satisfied with their team AND they're risking an injury or down year which will impact their new contract signing. ALSO, the team that drafts him can offer a secured maximum 5-year deal, whereas any other team can only offer him 4 years.
