Seriously, his shooting wasn't just good for a PF but was good for the entire NCAA that year. He had the total package and showed up in the biggest games.

I think he still has a chance of breaking out but it's hard to draft Bennet high after two guys who dominated the college game in Beasley and D-Will pretty much fell off in the pros.

And Thomas Robinson isn't even in the discussion. He has very few NBA skills other than rebounding.

it depends on which direction those similar players go. derrick doomed himself by trying to fashion and promote himself as a SF. there's much more to being a SF than being able to hit some 3's.
now if guys like bennett follow him and beasley down the same path, then they too likely won't live up to their potential. if bennett embraces the PF position, uses his perimeter skill as a bonus, shows more willingness to scrap and do the dirty work, like a paul millsap, then i think he'd be more productive and more highly regarded.

unfortunately, early indications are that he's more derrick williams than millsap.

Anthony Bennett is not a tweener. He's an undersized four. His level of strength and athleticism will help him be a factor in the next level and I think he'll end up being better than Thomas Robinson. Bennett has many more tools on his game compared to T-Rob.

Bennett is different...Look at his demeanor. this kid is a damn freshman, and walks on the court like he owns it. He's a type A, his body type is also different, i just like the fire he plays with, he is so good.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

If he's an undersized 4 then he's going to be a nightmare for his own coaching staff as they try to devise ways to hide him on D.

I just don't see how he's going to be an adequate defender at his size at the 4. And he's going to have to rev up that motor to be passable at defending the 3.

Bennett reminds me of Kenneth Faried.

I'm not sure I agree on the logic of comparing these three, but here are my thoughts:

I liked Williams coming out. While he hasn't lived up to my expectations, I think his failures have been exaggerated and he will eventually be a very good player (but not a star). He really does need to be a PF not a SF.

I didn't like Robinson coming out at all. I didn't ever get the hype. So, far it looks like I was right. He's just a very ordinary PF.

I think you can make the case that Bennett is the best prospect of the group, although I would put him pretty close to Williams level.

He's a tweener any way you slice it. Calling him an "undersized" PF doesn't make it any better. Williams was at least near 6'9" in shoes, Bennett is 6'7 and way too bulky to guard NBA SFs way out on the perimeter. This draft is awful though, so I might still draft him in the late lottery.

Bring up all the guys that have slightly underachieved but you dont bring up the massive overachievers
Kenneth Faried
Paul Millsap
Kevin Love(same height without shoes as Robinson with smaller wingspan)
David Lee(same height as robinson smaller wingspan)
Josh Smith

I went to a game tonight to watch Bennett play live. First half, I was fairly unimpressed. Second half, he showed a very polished offensive game with range extending to about the free throw line. He is not fast, but does have a very quick first step.

Defensively Bennett is not very good. He gets lost and doesn't rotate and is not a shot blocker. Boise State doesn't have a strong interior player, so I didn't really see him play defense 1 on 1 in the post. I could over look his poor defense as a prospect if he was anything above adequate rebounding... Unfortunately, I didn't see the drive/desire to be an exceptional rebounder.

Bennett is definitely an NBA player, but I have a hard time seeing him being more than a low end starting PF or a 6-th man type.
