Yeah, this sounds right. People seem to get hyped up on Delly every time he has a good couple of games but on balance he's not even a particularly good backup, probably not much above replacement level.

Don't get me wrong, I like him and enjoy watching how he manages to be successful despite his athleticism, but NBA players are good. Relative to them, Dellavedova doesn't stand out. Playing with scorers and an athletic fronctourt helps his stock a lot, hides howmuch he struggles to score on his own.

I'm Australian and i love Delly but you're right, he is just your average player. In Delly's case, he's lucky to have found the perfect role for him. Playing next to 2 high usage players (LeBron and Kyrie) there is absolutely no pressure for him to carry the team. All he has to do is hit open 3's, play mistake free basketball, and play hard on D.

The thing i love about Delly's story though is that he has outplayed his potential by playing really hard. He hustles for every lose ball, and he's a pest on defense.
