It doesn't remove the accomplishment but it's important information nonetheless when Randle is presented in a light that I believe oversells his actual impact as a player. I'm completely d'accord, by the way, with pointing out that we can't just assume Queen to become as good as Randle (he's a good NBA player after all). But it's not because Randle is a genuine All-NBA level player.

P-1 Visas

Athletes who cannot meet the “extraordinary ability standard” required for an O-1 visa may petition for a P-1 visa. To qualify for a P-1 visa the athlete must show that he is internationally

recognized and is coming to the U.S. to participate in a league or event with a distinguished reputation. Athletes under contract with the NHL, NBA, MLB, MLS and NFL need only establish that they have a major league contract to qualify for a P-1 visa.

I'm guessing he is probably fine, setting aside all the other issues w/this.

It's a different visa status than a student visa. I don't know if it will or it won't, but he likely has more protection and options than someone seeking asylum.

Maluach will be on an 0-1 Visa as an NBA player. Those are the same visas given to foreign actors, musicians, high net-worth entrepreneurs/specialists.
