Your opinion......I have mine and it is that OJ has the physical tools to become a lock down defender in the league and his defensive versatility (PG,SG,SF) is only matched by Weaver IMO

Lots of guys have the tools to be good defenders. Anyone who is athletic and not undersized can be a quality defender. This thread is asking who is a good defender, not who you think one day might be a good defender.

The correct answer is still Marcus Dove and Kyle Weaver.

Does anyone think Westbrook can play pointguard at the NBA level or is he a shooting guard that can just bring the ball up the floor but not be the floor leader? It would be nice if he had the potential to be a Devin Harris type of player.

I don't think that OJ is even close to Weaver defensively.

Collison and Weaver come to mind, but Marcus Dove is supposedly the best defensive player in the country. No offense, though. Is he a D-league guy who will pick up some offense? I have seen zero OK State this year, has he improved from last year?
from ny, never been a fan of the knicks...

He is not a terrible offensive player, though he will never be a 15 ppg. guy. IMO he has a chance to become a Trevor Ariza/Bruce Bowen type of NBA player, a glue guy who starts for his defense. Guys like this are historically tough to guage though, as every year a great college defender seems to fall through the NBA cracks.

It's pointless, we have tried to educate......they simply restate what the media has been telling them.....ie. weaver off rep and dove off statements made by durant, incapable of actually evaluating

I'm no comedian. I have had the the privilege of seeing USC vs. WSU live and I was not impressed with OJ. It seemed to me that OJ was on the weaker of the scorers. He never was paired up with Low. Weaver on the other hand is put on the biggest perimeter scoring threat every night. He held a player named Jerryd to 2 points in the first half. Weaver is the shutdown defender. OJ not so much. I think Floyd tends to put him on the weaker scorers to hide his defensive abilities or to make them look stronger.

Weavers great no denying that, but considering the minutes OJ plays, along with the scoring and playmaking responsibilities, his perimeter defense is quite impressive and would be even without the previous three considerations.

Plus, forgive me but, there is nothing "weak" about Derrick Rose and Jerryd Bayless, whom Mayo has guarded and guarded well this season. He was helped by the triangle and two with Rose, but he was still able to keep him out of the lane which had a big effect on the game. And it was clear Bayless had trouble with OJ's size and strength and quick hands and athleticism, he's struggled during games when OJ was guarding him. But these are all opinions anyway...

I've seen them live too but I am done debating this with you....

OJ Mayo is definitely one of the best perimeter defenders in college basketball. The job that he did on Bayless and Rose this season was amazing and the more impressive part is that he's also putting in a ton of energy on the offensive end.
