It'll be interesting to see where he goes. Only two teams saw him live, and the Raptors were the only team to send actual scouts. Golden State sent an assistant coach to look at one of their own prospects. Golden State has the pick in the range you'd expect him to go. Any other team will just be drafting off film and workouts. Seems like he could really slide now that the Raptors have moved up with the lottery.

So workouts? Looks like he shut it down already, so he must have a promise and I was wrong about him sliding.

Are we sure Raps won't just take Giddey at 4? I know that sounds crazy and surely they'd try to move back before doing that but between their Australia visit, Giddey shutting everything down early, Raps team needs, and the fact that I see no reason why Suggs would have a higher floor or ceiling, Giddey seems like a decent bet to be their guy.

Cmon now Jalen Suggs is now getting underrated if that’s the case. Jalen Suggs has what Giddey has except he has legitimate defensive impact. Not to mention he’s a superb athlete and a better scorer something Giddey isn’t.
Jalen is a great passer too saw it all the great passes like with Giddey so there isn’t enough of a difference and that’s Giddey’s main calling card.
Jalen pops when you watch him. Like pre rookie Jason Kidd playstyle.

Keep in mind Suggs was mostly playing as the 3rd option in the WCC whereas Giddey was playing in a pro league. I don't think their passing is even comparable. Giddey is way ahead.
I agree Suggs looks like the better scorer and athlete and he's a much better defensive prospect. Is Suggs a good enough scorer and athlete to be the main guy though because Raps already have elite defensive players who can score in supporting roles. What they don't have is a conductor and that's the main thing Giddey brings to the table. Think about how much better he'd make Siakam.

I think you’re overrating Giddey and underrating Suggs.
What scoring option was Giddey then?
Suggs is further to the full package then Giddey is. I like both but I have Suggs well ahead.
Suggs is a great passer and the defense is legitimate.
Laments terms Suggs is more closer to Jason Kidd then Giddey is to Lamelo.
You can talk about ceilings but even I think Suggs is higher.
And the chances of actually hitting everything to the max just does not happen or is a lot rarer/outlier. The ceilings of prospects fall somewhere in between.
Giddey -
Shot
Scoring creation and scoring volume
Size and strength
Handle
Defense
It’s fantasy thinking every marker will hit and max out.

Well, he did some pre-draft Zoom calls w/ Thunder media. And gave one of the funniest Zoom moments I recall (Brandon was talking to his 1 year old):
And Giddey had a laugh about it on Twitter as well.

Re: Josh Giddey - 6'8 Aussie PG
Between his media availability today and his film sesh with Mike Schmitz I'd say he's one of the best interviews amongst all prospects. Going back watching his NBL tape though I don't know if I'd bet on the high level scoring upside. Think the all star path for him is to become deadly on his pull up 3/middy but with his foundational shooting it'd have to be an outlier projection for him to develop that kind of shot diversity/volume. Really it's just about if he can be relied on to score near the end of the game or if he can be effective out of isolation. Not saying he can't get there but median outcome for to me would be somewhere around Satoransky or maybe Batum (still great).

I like him, I think he has high IQ which combined with his size and skills will make him an NBA starter like Rubio/Ingles. I think he's not going to hurt a team offensively or defensively. Probably a role player but a guy you pay 12-15m a season for.
High floor, medium ceiling is my thoughts.

Re: Josh Giddey - 6'8 Aussie PG
I really have a hard time evaluating him more than any prospect in recent memory. On one hand, I see high level BBIQ on the offensive end and he's got great size with a good handle so he could be a point forward ala Melo Ball, Luka, Simmons, Lebron, and Cade. On the other hand, he's a below average athlete, can't shoot and is an embarrassing defender. I thought these things about Ball and was down on him until I reminded myself that they allow moving screens, traveling, carries and push offs so limited athletes with high BBIQ can do well and nobody cares about defense and moved him to the top. So really, what is stopping TOR from taking him at #4? If they're rebuilding they can be patient with him and play him right away, not try to bring back Lowry and build around him going forward. Or, if they don't want to rebuild, they can afford to have him on the floor as the Point Forward knowing he's protected because there's veterans all around him. I feel like he could go anywhere from #4 to out of the lottery at this point. imho he's the draft's biggest wildcard

I don’t see any team jumping on Giddey that early. I see him popping up on boards from 7 onwards, though, and I could imagine Toronto fielding some trade offers from some of those teams for a pick in that range as part of other moves (Siakam).

Because Suggs is straight out a better prospect all ends up. The top 4 is four for a reason. The draft really starts at 5 to me.
Said it in the beginning Giddey is a lesser version of Lamelo only thing that’s ahead is composure that’s it nothing else.
Athleticism
Defense
Handle
Scoring
All clear to Lamelo.
At the start his best role is primary PG off the bench or a linked ball type in a starting unit. There is strict thresholds to cover being a guard in the NBA. Giddey doesn’t meet those thresholds.
I’m banking on him though not being over reliant on his two main selling points (Passing, Height).
Lamelo is well well ahead
Suggs is a better fit and just a straight out better prospect for the Raptors anyway. Look at their attributes and skillsets that’s transferable to the NBA. FVV settling into the PG/SG spot with Suggs as his backcourt mate.
People question size or height but both will be fine. One is a meatball and the other has legitimate defensive transferability. Can’t see Giddey in the Top 5 on draft night. Top 10? Sure but you can rafffle a half a dozen names at least that has a case for top ten.

Is it worth pointing out that Giddey is almost 18 months younger than Suggs?

Props to Turbo_Zone for the sig.

That’s valid of course but as before Suggs is closer to the full package than Giddey is. I have Suggs as having a higher ceiling and a higher floor.
It’s dangerous to be on the fantasy side of things with Giddey. I get the allure but when you break it down there’s more risks involved.

Re: Josh Giddey - 6'8 Aussie PG
I'm an Aussie, have seen plenty of Giddey, and am an unabashed fan.
Having said all that, I think he'll get stronger, his shot will improve and his general feel for the game and maturity (in all senses of the word) are pretty advanced.
His dad was a good player (played NBL with Ben Simmons dad) so he's been around the game forever.
The ball handling worries me. He's a tall lead guard, and I think that height and his passing holds a lot of his value. But if he doesn't improve the handle drastically, he's going to have all sorts of issues working to his strengths. Back when my Celts had the 16th pick, I was hoping he might slip, but I was surprised some here were suggesting he could go 4 or 5. That seems high (to me). He's a project, albeit one who could be a good backup guard even if he doesn't really work out.
Hope he kicks butt, wherever he goes.

He does?
Giddey is 6'9". Suggs is 6'4"
Giddey is 18. Suggs is 19.
Suggs is more ball dominant, as he posted as usage rate of 24.8%, compared to Giddey with a usage rate of 19.5%
Despite having a much lower usage rate, Giddey still managed to have a much higher assist rate of 36.3%, compared to Suggs with an assist rate of 23.7% ....despite the fact that Giddey faced superior competition in the NBL compared to what Suggs faced in the weak West Coast Conference.
Sounds like a solid case for Giddey being a better prospect. Obviously Suggs is quicker, more athletic, better handle better shooting (not a huge gap here) and better defense, but is it enough to compensate for the advantages Giddey has?
IDK, I think you could debate it either way..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

The Pels have a local scout over here who's been watching Didi Louzada. Would be weird if he didn't at least catch a game or two, I would have thought. But with the world Covid-crazy, who knows?
