But it makes no sense to draft a guy with a top 10 pick who doesn't want to be there, will be pissed off on that team, unhappy with his role, etc.
that isn't really a thing. who was the last rookie that was actually an issue for?
they go do whoever drafts them and they play hard for that team.
It is a thing. It just happened. It's been all over Twitter lately - Castle said in an interview that he had to sacrifice at UConn (not being able to play PG) but he doesn't want to do that in the NBA. He sees himself as a PG, he wants to play PG and is refusing workouts with teams who have a PG in place.
When was the last draft prospect who said something like that? It doesn't happen very often.
Prospects (or their agents) leaking certain information to the media, or just saying certain things privately to NBA teams (like for example pushing for a workout with a certain team, or refusing to workout for other teams) happens fairly often though..it doesn't always get reported..some of it is behind the scenes deals/conversations that happen. And some of this kind of stuff (players/agents doing stuff to get that player on a certain team or away from a different team) happens with veteran players (trades, free agency, etc.) in addition to just draft prospects.
Again, it's not worth the risk IMO to have a mess on your hands, to botch a top 10 draft pick..especially when there will be other good players available in that spot who are arguably as good or better than Castle..for example, Charlotte has the 6th pick but a strong argument could be made that Castle is (at best) the 7th best prospect in this draft..
