We've known about his stroke. What I've liked recently (a lot) is his composure. Kid will belong.

Re: Nik Stauskas Ceiling + Projection
I really like him too, he's not just a shooter. He's crafty and an excellent passer. People don't realize but he has been one of the most efficient offensive players this season. He can run the pick and roll, catch and shoot, pick and pop. He's creative and has a little bit of herky jerky and see's the game well. He does have the defensive liability but he's capable, he's plenty athletic. Kid can flat out play. I think he belongs in the top 10 to be honest. I think the Klay comparisons are good, he's right there and maybe a more rounded offensively. He's got everything Reddick does in a better body and maybe a more natural creator than JJ. I'd take him over Smart, guy is second year and can't crack 30% on college threes and barely over .40 from the field and turnover prone. Give me the guy that can really score and play.

Smart is the only top 5 range player I would never even dream of taking.

What? I said Smart is the only person who is being discussed in the top 5 range that I would never dream of taking. I never mentioned Wiggins lol.

I like Stauskas, but I think he's being overvalued. I like the Belinelli comparison, but I just can't see him ever getting over the hump of being a solidly good player. Which is the same way I feel about Belinelli. Could be an all-star on the right team (as the third best player on a team).
I hate comparisons in general though. I've argued my point on this before. If I were to base a ceiling, it would have to say, third best player on a team. His floor is a end-of-the-bench role-player.

Re: Nik Stauskas Ceiling + Projection
Right now I have him as the best offensive prospect in the draft. He's one of the most skilled wing prospects in years. It's not just the shooting, which is already one of the best for SG/SFs last handful of years, but in combination with among the best ballhandlers we've seen at SG/SF recently as well, along with above average passing skills. Put it all together and his skill level is high, real high. Like almost what Kyrie's for PGs high. (and for the record I'm not saying Stauskas is as good a ballhandler as Kyrie, but PG ballhandling is on a higher curve)

I wish he's there on the board when Orlando picks, he's a prospect i've had my eye on and we could use a player like him

I really like the Klay Thompson comparison while being a bit better at attacking and being a playmaker as his upside on the offensive end. In my opinion, he deserves strong consideration for a lottery selection. His progress between last season to this season has been absolutely amazing. Plus, teams always want players like him that can just stroke the ball from deep.
I see in most mock drafts he's in that 13-18 range.

The first comparison thrown out was to a biracial player and then a few post down was a list of black players but I'm sure you didn't consider any of this when you posted this formulaic response?

Great shooter and underrated playmaker he thrives in the pick n roll and the nba is a pick n roll league i think hell be really good offensively..
Hes a sieve on defense watching him against Tenessee in the tournament he ddint even attempt to guard his man but if youre picking him late lotto/ mid first round youre dealing with players with flaws but his strengths are bigger then most at that stage of the draft..

Re: Nik Stauskas Ceiling + Projection
Just to bump this, the official-ish Stauskas thread...
Nik has been climbing and is now projected to go in the 8th-12th range, with some chance of slipping into the early teens. I'm a Michigan fan and a big supporter of Stauskas, but I'm starting to wonder if he's getting overrated and the expectations are getting too high.
He should be useful from day one, as long as you have someone to patrol the middle and clean up his sloppy defense. Obviously an elite shooter, Nik can also create in the P&R, come off screens, and run an offense for brief stretches as long as someone like Avery Bradley isn't on the floor checking him. He's going to allow a LOT of penetration, though, as he's one of those guys that's quicker with the ball in his hands than without -- if you don't know where he's going, he can get by you, but if he doesn't know where you're going, he's not going to stop you.
We'll see how much work he puts in to get stronger. He's never going to be above-average with his defensive footwork, but he can at least attempt to take away post-ups and learn to play team defense (ala Reddick). If that happens and his offensive skills translate, he has all-star potential. That's at least a few years away, though. Floor? A solid shooter and scorer off the bench, useful on any team. If I were running a team and looking for a nice combination of risk and reward, I'd rather take Stauskas than guys like Gordon and Smart, who clearly have a higher ceiling but also come with some serious bust potential.
