Tbh, I don't get that comp at all. Johnson's a player who gets by on his athleticism and energy off the bench. Donte's at least a couple inches taller, is more reliant on his skills, and has a more consistent jump shot. Question I have - how much has Villa's roster helped him get the kind of matchups he simply won't get anywhere else? Teams have to put their top perimeter defenders on Brunson and Bridges. And opposing bigs have to cover Spellman and Villa's other big out on the perimeter. That leaves the inside open for Donte to take the opponent's worst devender to the hoop. But Donte should be given credit for having a tremendous long game and the ability to take it to the hole - and a very good all-around skill set at both ends of the court.

LOL his old tweets are all over Twitter right now

Jealous “woke” crowd digging up dirt from a 13 year old to make him look like he’s a bigot and not just immature like most 13 year olds.

Kid very well might get an end of the 1st round promise from somebody. Going to be a tough decision whether to take it.

A Twitter account attributed to Villanova's Donte DiVincenzo, the most outstanding player of Monday night's national title game, has been deleted.

As DiVincenzo was on his way to scoring a career-high 31 points in the Wildcats' victory over Michigan, his sudden celebrity led some on social media to look up his account. What they found was less than flattering.

The account, which had more than 17,000 tweets and was mostly active when DiVincenzo was in high school, contained at least five tweets that used the N-word. Other tweets used derogatory terms for gay people.

After the game, Villanova's basketball account tweeted that DiVincenzo's account had been hacked.

"None of the statements attributed to Donte are his," part of the school's statement said.

The phrasing came off as odd because no tweets came from DiVincenzo's account on Monday. In fact, the last tweet from the account was dated June 2016. The statement itself was later deleted, and DiVincenzo's account was wiped.

It's equally stupid to be tweeting stuff out at that age (or any age frankly).

I don't understand your point. He tweeted out a rap lyric at the age of like 11. Even if he tweeted it today, there is literally nothing racist about it. Now if you were to tell me that most modern hip hop is garbage and he lacks taste, then I'm picking up what you're putting down.

If we're talking about the same tweets then he was 15-16. Young enough to say stupid things and not necessarily be an idiot as an adult (not necessarily referring to the ‘racial slurs‘ here) but still old enough to know better, and to own up to the silly comments.

A little Jeremy Lin in his game? More athletic.

Here are the numbers as a reference:

Lin: 16.4 ppg, 4.5 ast, 4.4 rebounds

DiVincenzo: 13.4 ppg, 3.5 ast, 4.8 rebounds

Worthy of a first round pick.

Twitter is an application that stores your comments indefinitely. There are plenty of adults who would be better off if their commentary was lost into the void, let alone teenagers. What is the utility of Divincenzo (or anyone) tweeting rap lyrics?

And that's not all that different than a message board, but at least we're generally not using our personal names on Realgm.

Lin is a really good comp. He doesn't get downhill as fast as young Jeremy Lin, but seems stronger and longer

Brunson didn't play a considerable amount of time yesterday, and they put Donte at PG for a large stretch of the game. He was facilitating their offense just as good as, if not better than Brunson.

Anyways, can someone explain to me why he isn't a lotto pick? I see athleticism, decent size, good handle and playmaking, can shoot the rock, can dribble-drive, hit FTs and has a crazy motor.

He's an awesome combo guard for today's NBA. I really don't see how guys like Gilgeous-Alexander and Duval or even Sexton are better honestly.

Meh, Brunson played 28 minutes and Donte played 37, so they played most of the game together. But I agree with you if you're saying Brunson didn't facilitate Donte's offense - or any other teammate's offense for that matter. Brunson is not a true PG, and as good as Villa's offense is, I think they could have benefited from a true PG - particluarly Spellman. Villa had only 7 assists, but playing 5 guys who can all hit 3's makes the perimeter players look better. Their bigs didn't score much last night, but their presence made everyone else more effective, imo.

Consistency is the only reason I would guess. He hasn’t really been putting up these kind of performances since he’s been in college, at least not game after game.

Meh.

DiVincenzo's metrics smash Duval's for instance, so I don't think it's production or consistency that's the issue.

Maybe it's b/c he's a jr. but even then.

Remember Josh Hart last year? Everyone who did mocks had him as a 2nd round pick. He got picked 30th, and he's having a very good rookie year. I was shouting about Hart being underrated last year the same way you are about Donte. I think we'll both be proven right to some extent.

I'm not really referring to the racial slur here.

That said, I don't really care about his tweets. There was some silly stuff posted by him but nothing that plenty of other players haven't said, thought or posted either.
