Tbh, I don't get that comp at all. Johnson's a player who gets by on his athleticism and energy off the bench. Donte's at least a couple inches taller, is more reliant on his skills, and has a more consistent jump shot. Question I have - how much has Villa's roster helped him get the kind of matchups he simply won't get anywhere else? Teams have to put their top perimeter defenders on Brunson and Bridges. And opposing bigs have to cover Spellman and Villa's other big out on the perimeter. That leaves the inside open for Donte to take the opponent's worst devender to the hoop. But Donte should be given credit for having a tremendous long game and the ability to take it to the hole - and a very good all-around skill set at both ends of the court.
Brunson didn't play a considerable amount of time yesterday, and they put Donte at PG for a large stretch of the game. He was facilitating their offense just as good as, if not better than Brunson.
Meh, Brunson played 28 minutes and Donte played 37, so they played most of the game together. But I agree with you if you're saying Brunson didn't facilitate Donte's offense - or any other teammate's offense for that matter. Brunson is not a true PG, and as good as Villa's offense is, I think they could have benefited from a true PG - particluarly Spellman. Villa had only 7 assists, but playing 5 guys who can all hit 3's makes the perimeter players look better. Their bigs didn't score much last night, but their presence made everyone else more effective, imo.
