Rose could bring some extra energy to the Bulls with his penetrations to the basket.

Otherwise, i wont be surprised if they pick Beasley cause he is a big rebounder, scores too and a good player of course. Chicago also needs more "presence" in the frontcourt

They take the Chicago kid in Rose and look to package players away for a stud player. Carmelo?
I despise fans that cheer on a team from up north or one that resembles a dinosaur. oh wait...

I'm open to Beasley, but want Rose and I'm no where near Chicago.

Our front court consist of 6'6 Marion and 6'8 UD who have no presence at all.

Seriously, I can care less. I'm a die hard Bulls fan but I didn't know Rose was a native of the Chicago area until a year ago. And I live in Dallas.

I AM from Chicago. I've FOLLOWED Rose for the last 2 years. And I don't give a RAT'S ASS that he's from Chicago.

Yeah, yeah. I dont expect anyone to fess up to it (I wouldnt), but you know it plays a part and its always in the back of people's minds. Basketball wise, Beasley is everything Bulls fans have been whining about for years. Now one bad year out of Hinrich and a fortuitous bounce of the ping pong balls has some Bulls fans claiming they will give up on the team if they pick Beasley (There's an entire thread on the Bulls forum about it).

5 tool players like Beasley is hard to pass up, so the Bulls shouldn't pass him up. Micheal Beasley in a no contest.

A doubt, would you think that being a Chicago area native should be a factor in the decision???

Yes - while Rose is from a bad neighbourhood and may go back and see these people, possibly causing off court trouble, he's had his head on straight for 19 years and I really think he'll be fine. He seems like a smart enough guy.

On a positive note, when you have a situation where you're picking number one and you really can't go wrong - but ones from the same city your team plays in, you take him. I think it's a big time marketing pull, drafting arguably the most hyped PG prospect in a decade who also starred at the cities greatest basketball high school.

There would also be positives for Derrick obviously, living where his famiy can see him play, staying somewhere familiar, seeing old friends, etc.

It's a win-win situation for both the Bulls and Derrick.

Thanks. I am leaning on thinking the same as you. With no clear decision on who is a better player for Chicago, being a hero at your own home shoul be an advantage.

Disagree, it probably has some bearing with the money guys like JR but not to Paxson. Iguodala is from Illinois, every mock had Chicago picking him up, the need was at SG & SF, and Paxson picks Ben Gordon (then projected as a PG).

People just aren't tuned in to the actual needs of the team. From the team statistical analysis from 82games, PF is the Bulls' best position, and the only position where Bulls regularly have a +/- advantage. There isn't a single awesome player there, but a rotation of Gooden, Tyrus Thomas, and Nocioni provide a ton of scoring & defense. Deng at 6' 9" could easily spend some time there if he bulks up (only 22), since he's an inside player.

Gooden + Nocioni + Tyrus: 34 ppg 16.7 rpg 2.8 bpg, not to mention that most chicago fans see Noah as an eventual PF, not a C.

On the other hand, i'd say it's right now 51%/49% in favor of Gordon leaving Chicago, since both he & Deng cannot be signed to big contracts. Larry Hughes will given away, Paxson may even give something to get rid of him.

That leaves our backcourt of
- Kirk Hinrich
- Chris Duhon (who will probably not be resigned)
- Sefolosha

...for a team based around backcourt scoring.

Rose would have to work to reach Hinrich's level of a couple of years ago. The guy was 17 6 and 40% from downtown then. Not to mention was as good a defender in the league on both SGs and PGs.

Trading Thomas would remind me a lot more of trading Chandler.

Aside from Hinrich, I don't see why you'd trade those guys. Thomas and Thabo have high upsides and their value is down. Both also complement Rose extremely well. Gordon is and if they draft Rose, will continue to be the best scorer on a team that struggles mightily on the offensive end.

If you trade those guys for Brand you still have some youth, but really, what's the point? To try to make it one round further in the playoffs next season? Brand will be retired in three or four years when Noah and Rose are in their prime while Gordon and Thomas will be playing well for other teams.

but he aint got no jumper at all & he's only 6-3

in the league

They're bigger than Gordon and Hinrich.

Also, if you start Sefolosha and play Gordon 35 minutes as a sixth man, he and Beasley only need to play together about ten minutes a game.

I didn't know that was binding. Hinrich's bad season isn't the only thing that's changed, the Bulls also spent the #2 and the #9 picks on big men the past two seasons. Also, NBA fans in general seem to value point guards more and traditional bigs less than they did just a year or two ago.

IMO the Bulls should pick Rose as I think he is the BPA and will have the best career.

But I think they will choose Beasley to fit in better with their team.

Yeah, except I'm a die hard Bulls fan that lives in the Northeast and have never stepped foot in the state of Illinois...yet somehow I am firmly on the side that wants Rose over Beasley.

Try instead:

"Basketball wise, Beasley is everything the national media have been whining about for years."

I don't disagree w/you re: the hometown thing, it does play a part. However, there are a lot of reasons to prefer Rose over Beasley if you knew our team as well as we do. If Rose was from MS as you threw out there, I bet the majority would still want Rose....it's the Chicago thing that turns it from a majority to a landslide.

IMO whoever has the 1st pick should take the BPA. Beasley is clearly the BPA.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Didn't Paxson draft Tyrus Thomas and Noah high, both at the 4? Why not just roll with them as their low post guys and go with Rose? Unless he wants to admit he f'ed up to high plum picks?

I am not saying every single Bulls fan who wants Rose over Beasley only wants it because Rose is from Chicago, I am just saying that what keeps this from being around 50/50 is that Rose is from Chicago, and Chris Paul's magical season has point guards all the rage.

I prefer Rose to Beasley, and have for a while, so I understand the reasons why people want him over Beasley. For a team like the Bulls though, I think there is a stronger argument for Beasley than people are giving him credit for. A lot of that is because Rose is the hometown kid.

This is true not every bulls fan wants Rose. There's plenty on our board argue it every day.

However, every time i see this mentioned I :banghead: :banghead: each time. People bring that up for arguments for Rose or arguments against Rose. Not a valid agurment IMO

Derrick Rose. The emergence of Chris Paul and Deron Williams means everybody is searching for the next elite PG and right now, that looks like Rose. 20/10 forwards are a dime a dozen compared to PGs with game-changing ability.
