some of you are blowing the weight and body fat way out of proportion. he doesn't even look fat, or chubby or whatever you wanna say. He's big, but he's got a powerful natural build. It's not like Dwight where it looks like he spends more time in the weight room than playing actual hoops.

To me if he is at 16% body fat right now that may be a good thing. It could show he has upside if he can replace some of that fat with muscle.

I think people are holding on to it because again it's the one area they can knock this kid.

You can't knock his production when he was one of the most efficient players in the nation. Not just for a Freshman, not just for a post player, not just for a player in the SEC, he was one of the most productive players in the NATION.

You can't knock his length. He's not a stubby guy, his length is even better than Dwight Howard! He has longer arms and a higher standing reach than Dwight Howard and Greg Oden.

His athleticism isn't elite but it's sufficient especially for a man of his size.

So they have to cling on to this weight issue. The scary thing is that muscle weighs more than fat. So what if Cousins does continue to work out, and he's built even more like a tank and is 6'11 with 300+ pounds of solid muscle?

That's still not Shaq, but in today's undersized, watered down Center pool, he could look like Shaq

I hope everyone freaks out about him and he slides all the way to #7 where my Pistons can pick him up and let him be a multi year All Star center for us :-)

Reminds me more of Andrew Bynum than any of these guys mentioned.

Cousins. Curry looks a good 10lbs heavier. Pittman and Cousins both have that big but not muscular build

The do have similar builds, but Cousins is definitely skinnier. Both Pittman and Curry have/had big bellies, Cousins doesn't.

This is a picture of Cousins at the combine, he is clearly BIGGER than he is in the Kentucky picture

Image

He looks like he has gained weight to be honest, and he allegedly is on a "sea food and salad diet"

It's not just Cousins or his agent, though. I saw at least one report that he looked skinnier at the combine than he did during the season.

Edit: Also, his arms look bigger in that picture, but because of how baggy his shirt is, it's not really possible to say one way or the other if his body is bigger.

His arms look bigger and his face looks bigger as well. I think its clear that he's added weight, I haven't seen any reports that said he looked skinnier at the combine so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Not really a report, I guess, but this is from the Draftexpress Twitter:

"Circus show around DeMarcus Cousins at NBA Combine media day. Came out very quiet. Clearly lost weight. http://tweetphoto.com/23214274

I also could have sworn that the Realgm report on the Combine said the same thing, but I just checked and it didn't.

As I predicted we won't see the athletic results until around Tuesday.

And even those numbers have been proven to be misleading for writing off a guy. See Kevin Durant

I don't agree with the Cousins weight concerns to be honest. He seems to be working hard prepping for the draft combine and he also played alongside John Wall. He wasn't a transition player by definition, but any concerns of him playing in that sort of an offense should have come out.

(given, I realize Cousins was the go-to man in half court sets, but still)

Weight is really one of the only concerns with Cousins. If you could guarantee that he'd get down to 12% body fat and stay there for most of his career, he'd be a pretty awesome prospect - very strong, outstanding length (9'5" standing reach is GREAT), nice mobility/coordination, aggressive, and very skilled (much more skilled than he gets credit for, he's a total natural in the post). If in great shape and motivated he should be beastly in the post and on the boards, and average on d. But if he lets himself go and turns into a fatty, then you've wasted a top 5 pick.

Body fat% is a better indicator of endurance and what to expect when the kids' metabolism isn't there to save him... that's the concern, not that he won't look good in a swimsuit or something
