No one really talks about Fultz because everyone agrees he's the best prospect this year. Not saying he doesn't have any flaws, but there's not much to say about Fultz that hasn't already been said lol.

I think the two biggest weakness in his game is his inability to draw fouls and lack of vocal leadership. With the leadership part, it's a lot of nitpicking, but he doesn't seem like the most vocal guy out there. He's calm like Wiggins and Kawhi. I'm not sure how, or if it'll affect his game moving forward, but I think it's a weakness for the PG position.

Derrick Rose won MVP playing PG and not talking.

Nobody has pause about taking a guy 1 who couldn't even lead his team to the tournament

Nope, will be the second year in a row if Fultz gets the top pick.

Yup it didnt stop Simmons from going #1. And Fultz was surrounded by a much less talented team than Simmons was. Simmons joined a team that went to the tournament the year before and was actually ranked in 21st to start the season, LSU wasnt even in the discussion to make the tournament half way through the season and he still went #1. Washington was crap last year and lost its 3 best players and Fultz was really the only new guy to come in. Before the season no one thought Washington had a chance to make the tournament, so no way you can hold that against Fultz.

Regarding Fultz

Post#487 » by ALL HAIL » Thu May 11, 2017 7:49 pm

Has there ever been a guy so highly ranked with a worse win-loss record?

His teammates not withstanding, shouldn't the potential number one pick be good for at least a .500 record?

Am I tripping, or is this as insignificant as (mostly) everyone makes it seem?

I've heard this dude be called "a can't miss prospect" more times than I can count on my hands, but I just can't fathom "a can't-miss prospect" losing thirteen games in a row in college.

It's really weird to me how people dismiss 22 losses. It would seem to me that if he was a "great" player, he'd be able to rally his lousy teammates to, at minimum, a .500 record, but, to me, it's not the losing that's at the heart of this matter, it's his ability to lead, show hunger, and connect with teammates.

He's got Marbury/Francis/Michael Vick-type leadership ability. Fortunately for him, his numbers are phenomenal (probably why he skipped road games toward the end of he year -- to preserve those numbers). And in this day and time that is apparently all you need to be a a consensus number one pick.

In this day and age numbers (in any context) are paramount whereas intangibles are largely dismissed, ignored, and minimized to a point of complete insignificance.

How can you lead teammates to making their shots and influence the coach to do a better job. One could argue that a one and done prospect should go to the worst team posible and showcase what you can withouth any help.

He won a gold medal and was MVP of a FIBA competition last summer. He won a state championship in Maryland last year. These players don't just materialize out of thin air to play in college.

He was hurt for six of those 22 losses (I neglected to mention that in the OP).

i've watched several washington games. all i can say is you've got to see to believe how bad his washington team was. the average age of the huskies squad he was on is like...20 years old. i think 1 senior played a lot of minutes, no juniors. a 20 ppg senior graduated, chriss and murray jetted to the nba (and became 1st round picks) when everyone thought they would stay for their sophomore seasons, and one of the reasons why fultz declared to go to washington. the team is god awful, and that is an understatement. huskies frontcourt was just miserable at defending and help defense, gave up way too many second chance oppurtunities because they have tough time grabbing boards. their best shot blocker was out for 11 games (the lone senior). the team lost to yale in the opener, that should've been a fortelling.

from what i've read and seen, this guy lives in his dorm and in the gym. curfew for the players was 11 pm everynight (i think) and he made sure his teammates were in their dorms by that time every night. he's a high character guy with a high skillset, and he was absolutely loved by his teammates, but i agree that he needs to show more fire out on the court.

Will Fultz be a bust for the Celtics

Post#492 » by nybluemeadow » Fri May 19, 2017 11:13 am

Should the Celtics pass up on Fultz and go ahead and take Ball at number 1, because of IT?

Fultz is a great prospect but its hard for me to imagine him playing off the ball with IT dominating the ball for 90 percent of the plays.

Ball just seems like the perfect teammate to pair up with IT, because of his height, PG skills, and ability to affect the game without touching the ball that much.

Should the Celtics pass up on Fultz to get a better back court teammate for IT?

Even if what you're saying was true, Ball comes with too much baggage. Celtics aren't desperate, they already have a very good team, with another top pick coming in 2018, so it's highly unlikely they're going to risk it with Ball & his dad.

Think would you rather have a player that has a complete game both inside and outside or a player who can only play in the transition game. Once in the half-court Ball becomes a nothing more then a 30 ft 3pt shooter with a sick shooting stoke. Honestly Fultz is the better choice all of the way around.
Just say no to idiots!!

Not sure where all this IT dominates the ball comes from. Not only does he not always bring it up but the C's are all about ball movement, pick n roll/screens. They do what they need to do to get IT open, personally think Fultz will be huge in helping with that.

Celtics current guards are IT, Bradley, Rozier and Smart. A NBA second team and 3 good and young players. The team fights for the top spot on East. They will try do bring Hayward. How much playtime do you think a 18 year kid (with great upside, but still, a 18 year kid) will get on that backourt?
Remembering that Bradley, IT and Smart will be on contract years. I can easily see Fultz having a season like Brown, show some flashs, but dont get enough minutes....

Fultz is definitely not going to be the best player in the draft. He is fgoing to be good but not a Superstar.

This won't be an issue because Fultz will be coming off the bench. There's no way on a good team like BOS that Fultz comes anywhere near starting in his first season. And if Stevens thinks he's good enough to start, then he clearly, by definition, is not a bust.

Fultz is highly likely to be a better player than IT long-term. Why pass him up out of concerns of his fit with a lesser player?

Imagine IT 6 inches taller with 8 inches in wingspan. That's basically Fultz.

He does dominate the ball. The usage gap between him and AB (the Celtics 2nd leading scorer) is the same as between Harden and Gordon in Houston.

IT does do a lot more off-ball than Harden, especially with Horford so gifted passing out of the high post, but IT is still the 1st, 2nd and 3rd option when it comes to handling and creating.
