Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
A guy no one has heard of. Even I had to look back on him, but I think could wind up as a first round pick.

I think we all have heard of him. Did you not watch last season'a NCAA tournament?

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
i know it's super early but how does the top of the draft look compared to previous years? the pistons 2-9 start already has me looking for talent in the draft...

I’ve asked the same as a Grizzlies fan. Not sure about the college guys but I’ve been bow score watching with Ron Holland and whoa boy it does not look good.

This aint the year hoping for a high end pick haha. That kicks back up again in the next two drafts when Flagg/Bailey and AJ/Boozer enter the draft.
I have a feeling we are going to see 5+ guys being mentioned as favorites to go #1 throughout the year. And its not going to be because there will be 5+ guys that look to be franchise guys.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Its way too early for this gloomy talk. The last time it was supposed to be a weak draft was 2020, and instead all you saw was parity 1-30 because there were no clear top guys. Usually, a bigger red flag to me is when the reports are its a 1-3 person draft because that means the scouts feel secure in the disparity in talent. Kind of like 2019, and even then some good players will go later in the draft. Anyhow let's wait until at least March before we write this whole draft off.

Good point. While it looks like a weaker class at the top in 2024, it's still very early.
Lots of time left before the draft - there will likely be at least 3 or 4 guys who really emerge as legit studs over the next 6 months..

Why did Xavier Booker go to Michigan State? Big Ten basketball is garbage. Izzo is playing upperclassmen scrubs over him.

It stacks up well with most other drafts. It looks pretty deep too because it has a lot of returning players. I'm not sure any of them have star upside like some of the lottery guys but they'll be pivotal role players. Many are saying it's one of the best international classes too!
Early lottery projection:
Sarr
Holland
Walter
Castle
Mara
Collier
Ajinca
Almansa
Bradshaw
Buzelis
Edwards
Risacher
Salaun
Sane
you know it's a good draft when guys like Cody Williams, Bob Klintman, Nikola Topic, Mackenzie Mgbako and Elmarko Jackson might not be in the lottery. Sleepers for y'all to watch out for are Garwey Dual-Providence and Scotty Middleton-Ohio State. You heard it here first
I do wonder if it's making it much easier for these kids to stay in school since they make so much money in NIL. There are so many returning guys who almost certainly would have been drafted if they came out but I guess the money is a wash and they can improve their games by staying rather than sit at the end of an NBA bench and never play

Haha there are a few on here that are higher on this class than most. But ya this class has overall has been kind of pushed aside by most, because the upcoming classes have the much more wow prospects in them.
With that said, its not like its going to be filled with busts. Just not filled with guys that most believe are high high level talent that you would hope to see at the top of a draft.

it's just not a great draft - any draft where you have to rely on returning talent or international talent to solidify the lotto/top20 isn't a great draft.
doesn't mean you cant find or there wont be good players to be had but you can tell it's not gonna be a great one, by virtue of a weak HS class, by virtue of some of the archetypes available, a lot of non-NCAA guys provide high variability, etc.
also that 2020 class you're talking about was supposed to be the '3 person draft' with Ant, Wise and LaMelo.

My hope is that you just never know, that a lot can change with a year of development. Some drafts like 2022, you knew going in that there would be a lot of high level prospects and it pretty much lived up to the hype but then you have a draft like 2020 that was a disappointment and turned out to have two legit franchise players in Edwards and Hailburton so you never know, what looks like a weak draft now could look stronger in a few months. That's my story and I'm sticking to it to make myself feel better about another down the toilet Pistons season

It's pretty bad for the Pistons specifically as the top 3 picks are probably going to end up being
Alexander Sarr-Nic Claxton like center
Nikola Topic-Elite passing and ball handling 6'7" PG who is all-time bad at defense
Isaiah Collier-Elite strength and passing PG with mediocre athleticism, ball handling, and shooting
After that, it's a bunch of fairly generic 3D guys which are always semi-useful I guess.
I think most fans of tanking teams (Jazz fan here so myself included) should resign themselves to their team targeting a nondescript 3D guy this upcoming draft.
(Ron Holland and Taylor Hendricks on the Jazz might be the least skilled 3-4 combo in the league outside of three point shooting, lol)

Man, the top of the upcoming draft class has thus far been so underwhelming that people would still rather talk about how last year's draftees fare in the NBA instead of what's going on in the NCAA or G-League at the moment.

I mean, the #9 and #28 guys from last year's draft class (who haven't sniffed the rotation) just beat Ron Holland by 60 points is why, lol.
