more tbh
Black
Rookie - 5/2/1 and shot 39% from three
2nd - 8/3/5 and shooting 30% from three
2024 Draft Point Guards I like as prospects more than Black
McCain - 17/2/3 and shooting 43% from three
Castle - 11/3/4 and shooting 28% from three
Carrington - 10/4/5 and shooting 38% from three
George - 8/4/3 and shooting 27% from three
Mitchell - 5/2/2 and shooting 47% from three
Collier - 4/2/3 and shooting 10% from three
Dillingham - N/A essentially hasn't played
Johnson - N/A essentially hasn't played
Topic - N/A injured
Carter - N/A injured
I'm not changing anything after 17 games. Are you at least ready to admit you might have been wrong about the point guards from this class and also that you just might be a little too high on AB?
You're posting raw stats from players on bad teams.

I see the need for lots of qualifiers and moving goalposts. Thunder have more wins than the Magic. Spurs have a winning record in the West. Sixers haven't had Embiid and George healthy and were considered one of the favorites to come out of the East ffs so not just "players on bad teams"

I like Castle and McCain. It's possible they end up better than Black. We'll have to wait and see. They are all 20 years old now, and I like to give players until they're 22 before you can get a definite idea of what they can be.FarBeyondDriven wrote:basketballRob wrote:AB started several games last season when he was 19 on a 47 win team. Both Philadelphia and San Antonio are currently out of the playoffs. We'll have to see if they end up lottery teams at the end of the season.

Congrats to Black for being drafted to a team with Franz and Paolo. He is awesome because his team is winning lol... I think it is far more likely he ends up having a Delon Wright type of career at this point then turning into a multi-time all-star. He doesn't suck and can play some solid reserve minutes on a winning team but that is a pretty low bar to set for a guy that went 6th overall.
He is 32nd in career ppg for his draft class. 21st in total career points. He is very likely heading towards being a solid backup point guard for his career.

Black is contributing to winning, which not every young player can do. If you ever look at a young players net rating, it steadily improves the first 3-4 years. Black had a -1 net rating last season and a +5 net rating this season.JMAC3 wrote:basketballRob wrote:I like Castle and McCain. It's possible they end up better than Black. Jett is another lottery pick we drafted last season, and he isn't getting minutes because he isn't good enough yet to contribute to winning. Jett was -5.3 last season and +3.3 this season. It's not quite as good as Black but making progress. Bub Carrington -20. Castle +4.6.

DLo +7.7 Net rating, he is awesome. Not affected at all by him playing with AD, LeBron and his team being 10-6.
Net Rating is a horrible justification of a player being good.

He could be thriving in his role off the bench. He's had mostly a good net rating since 2021. His net rating will probably come down as the season goes on.JMAC3 wrote:basketballRob wrote:Black is contributing to winning, which not every young player can do. You could also look at EPM, BPM, or PIE.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
I would happily take Black and start him in the backcourt alongside Fox. He'd really fit what we're trying to do. But we took Carter who I'm positive will be better in that role. So it's not like I hate him. Really it's about how good the 2024 guards and draft class are for me. Somehow this "weakest class ever" has 9 guards I like better than the 2nd point guard taken in the supposedly much stronger 2022 class. If you combined the two draft classes point guards I don't think Black finishes near the top but I also don't think he'd finish at the bottom either because there's some real bust potential with some of these guys.

compare that to your boy Amen, who's more than a year older than AB, who's regressing across the board, who's barely treading water at 30% from 3 and who now the Rockets have effectively removed his playmaking duties, down to 1 assist per game and a measly 2 assists per 100 possessions. while AB's minutes have doubled in his second season Amen's are going down.
hilarious watching this cat squirm in this thread while his boy, Amen, is literally worse across the board.

I think AB would be so fun to watch in a fast pace offense with lots of movement and 3s.
How D is elite even though it is being helped by Magic’s team D.

I am going to keep this thing going... because I find it funny that I was mocked and called out in multiple threads and now that person is a ghost. Better in raw stats and significantly significantly better in advanced stats.

With the Franz injury I hope they're smart enough to just start AB at this point.

EPM is a useless stats. It's fecal matter shaped into a cake. Developers of the stat knows quite a bit about marketing and website design, zero understanding of regularized regression at a graduate level.

it is but there's other stats that can help paint a picture like:
Amen
12/7/2 and 29% from three
per 36 - 16/10/3 shooting 30% from three with 2.5 stocks
Black
8/3/4 and 26% from three
per 36 - 12/4/6 shooting 26% from three with 2 stocks

I disagree, it is pretty good indicator.
I tend to find that it is pretty neutral especially as the data set expands.
Any stat that you use is going to have flaws that skew one way or the other.

Hopefully, next season, when Black is Amen's age, he'll put up stats like him because Amen is 1 year older. Black is close to the same age as Reed Sheppard. Only 5 months separate them.FarBeyondDriven wrote:CptCrunch wrote:EPM is a useless stats. It's fecal matter shaped into a cake.
