Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
I still like Black, and think that he's far too young still to completely count him out. As we all know, some players take longer to work it out than others. Black doesn't really have a great NBA skill at this point--I'd say it was his passing, but you have to be able to warp defenses in order to be efficient passing the basketball. He had that ability before he was drafted, so we'll see. In that regard, he reminds me a little bit of Scoot.
FWIW, I don't value "athleticism" as much as many do here, so that's one bias I have.

Black 45/44/76 in his last 18 games. Black is still younger than Amen was at the end of his rookie season.

Cherry picking his best stretch of the season he is still only averaging 9 ppg during that time. I am sorry but I am not impressed with him making 19 threes over the course of 18 games no matter what the percentages say, it is such low volume that is doesn't even matter.

You need a job with Magic PR. Your ability to post only positive things is being wasted!
Superstar Franz appreciates you ignoring him right now.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
Outside of his underwhelming stats, to me it is more about how the situation he has been gifted and been able to do nothing with.
Last year he was losing minutes to Markelle Fultz- who wasn't even in the league the majority of this year.
Then this year- Suggs misses over half the season- Paolo and Franz both miss extended time and Magic went to Cole Anthony to pick up the load instead of the guy they just spent the 6th overall pick on.
The NBA is about taking advantage of your opportunities and it is hard to find many guys in the league that have wasted them more than him. What more does he need to happen before he starts to show any type of improvement?

He was drafted to the worst team for him. No spacing, basically everyone needs the ball to be effective... Put him on the Hornets, Wizzards,... and he would shine

It’s really hard to be a non-shooting wing in the NBA.

A non-shooting PG is a bad fit for nearly every team.

Black's ball handling has improved a lot.

Hes been decently efficient over his last 30 or so games. Last 33 games hes shooting 44.5%/38.3% 3pt/74.1% ft. 10/3/3 box averages over that span are modest, but thats not really surprising giving his skillset and where hes at in his development.

He's getting better. His left hand was weak last season, and now he is throwing dimes with his left hand, and he drives to the left most off the time.Braggins wrote:basketballRob wrote:Black 49/47/73, 10 ppg over his last 19 games.

45/41/77 in his last 30 games. I think he was 47/39/65 last season.Braggins wrote:basketballRob wrote:Black 49/47/73, 10 ppg over his last 19 games.

Shooting 31% from three and 48% efg% on low volume averaging 9 ppg is not what most people would say means a guy can shoot. On 2.5 3 pt attempts per game too, gross. Only people excited to see Black shoot a 3 is the opposing team.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
I don't think it's gross at all, nor do I think you've accurately represented his ability to shoot. 39%, 40% post all-star break. Double digit scoring. Great defense.JMAC3 wrote:eyriq wrote:

Imagine looking at a whole year of shooting stats 70 games, 174 3 pt attempts... and get told you are misrepresenting the data and you really should ignore that, but instead focus more on 18 games post all star and those 50 3pt attempts instead.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
Black is only 9 months older than Castle, who'll likely win the ROY this season, and they put up similar stats. Castle is getting more opportunities on a tanking team.

Not really:

They have similar scoring efficiency (bad) but that ignores Castle is taking more and tougher shots than Black, especially from 3 where a lot of Castle's shots are really long while Black gets much more wide open corner 3s, also Castle has shown more ability getting to the rim. Lastly, being a rookie vs sophomore goes beyond the 9 and a half month difference, it's an extra year of getting used to the NBA game. I like Black, but I think Castle is the better prospect and it's not really close IMO.
