People are way too cynical, you see an athletic, 7'1 guy that can crossover people and shoot with good body coordination, and you think a surefire bust when he's only 18? I dunnoh, I think he looks alright. I just looked it up and read that he gained 12 kg the past year. That's work ethic and a knowledge of what he has to improve, and with work ethic + his natural athleticism you can get experience and a wider array of skills. He's back in the conversation after disappearing a bit for a reason, he's impressing people.

There's question marks about this guy's age too.. most in Australia know that he's closer to 25 than 18. No birth certificate and all that!! Surprised this big charade has gone on this long..

The concern I see with him is more to his style of play. Him being 7 feet tall is only relevant if he can play like a 7 footer. That means, can he rebound, block shots, protect the basket? That answer seems to be no right now against other top high school competition. Can he get you easy buckets around the basket?

Easy buckets in the post? Seeing a 7 footer cross over a guy and hit a fade away jumper is amazing, but that's not useful, efficient offense. If he's going to be a perimeter player, he needs to become an elite shooter period, not just an impressive one for a 7 footer.

I remember hearing about him putting up like 24/18 against dandre ayton a few weeks again, and ayton had very pedestrian stats. Just one example but it's not like he's never been a post presence against good competition.

Agreed.

I'd feel much safer if he were a KAT type prospect who had a NBA ready body and was a proven rebounder/defensive presence, rather than having impressive handles when in the NBA he probably won't get much of a chance to use them (efficiently anyway).

Bender was more talented and a better shooter. Bender didn't fail for lack of talent or drive...he had bad knees.

Well i'm from Australia , in fact from the area Thon grew up in and I remember seeing him several times playing soccer before he even touched a basketball, sure he and his brother were taller than everyone else on the field but no doubt up close he looked the same age as the other kids just taller n skinnier.

Yes there are some people in Australia who think he is older , but you will find they are mainly other players or their parents who were jealous of Thons success.

Haveing seen him up close as a youngster if Thon truely is older than his given birthdate , it wouldnt be more than 1 year max.

His reading comprehension seems fine to me. He basically said that one year ago you said he was 21 and now one year later, he's around 25. Seems you can't make up your mind. 4 years is a lot to age in just a year

Dennis Smith (NC Loaded) vs Thon Maker (Canada El…: https://youtu.be/rGiB7Hf63ok

OK.. Watch a full game of the guy! Finished with 6 points a couple of rebounds and at LEAST 6 turnovers.. There's a reason why draft express has him as a late first rounder.. Nowhere near the next KG that everyone is hypeing him up to be on here.

Clearly stats are important...
There's nothing new is this game. He gets the same criticisms while also proving that the numbers don't matter. He still plays like he's lost, but shows tremendous upside. He doesn't have a coach that's coaching him and it's apparent. College under a good coach would still do wonders for him.

Agreed. And just to add, why just show us one game? I'm pretty sure he's played in more then just that and maybe he occasionally put up some decent stats and showed off some of his potential

Having watched the physical differences between his 14 year old and 16 year old videos, it's clear that he is the correct age. Him putting on weight, his athleticism improving (he's now more so grown into his body) and combined with his face maturing, it all adds up to his age looking completely legit.

Thon reminds me of Andray Blatche.
