he is a project as it pertains to becoming a shooting threat but i think he is highly skilled play reader on defense and could not have run the offense for Lloyd Hamilton if he wasn't.
He could go before Kuminga and Jalen Johnson to some teams imo.

Yes he's a nice defensive prospect. So was RHJ. He's really good in transition too. I don't know if this is broken down anywhere but I'd be curious to see what his assist to turnover ratio was in the half court. I might be wrong but it felt like he didn't have as much success there.

Just released my Scottie Barnes scouting vid for any Barnes top 5 peeps! I’m not one of them but he’s def a top 10 guy with an intriguing and unique skill set for a team that will use him properly.

Seems like he’ll be a very good “glue guy” on the next level with his defense, competitiveness, and passing.

Agreed, I see him as a mini Draymond.

What does Barnes look like in the NBA?

Post#67 » by Skybox » Sat Jul 17, 2021 6:56 pm

Paint me a picture…I love Scottie Barnes’ physical profile, his defense, his attitude, but what does he do in the NBA?

Maybe I’m uninformed (that’s why I’m asking)…is he a giant actual PG or just a good passer for his size? Is he a surprisingly decent ball handler for his size or an actual NBA ball handler? Is he a nightmare point forward who breaks down perimeter D and finish or kick out for open 3’s? Does slapping the floor and full court pressing NCAA PGs translate to the big show? Is he Ben Simmons, Draymond, Magic Johnson, Okoro, Siakim ? I don’t even know what position he’ll be playing at the next level….illuminate me with your scenarios please

Im higher on him than most. I honestly see him as a smaller Giannis who will dominate physically when he gets some muscle on him. I think he's too big/too long and too tenacious not to.

He is definitely capable of being a Simmons type floor general that can defend 1-5 with a elite motor that is always running hot.
I am not sure I would want him running a team that is not a run and gun type but his height and handles are more than efficient enough to work in a grind out situation except he cant shoot from outside much.
I think with a improved set shot J or floater or an advanced display of finishes through traffic he could be the best prospect from this draft hands down if others come short of their hype

A better version of Kyle Anderson.

Barnes needs to improve to be worth his pick. It’s a draft based on upside. His film is good but IMO it’s not great. It’s his film combined with his physical profile that has him this high, I think he is a bigger risk than many are stating. His physical tools make him an NBA player but worth a top five pick? That’s TBD.

Sure, if Stanley was 2 inches shorter with 3 inches less in wingspan, and you took away the thing that makes Barnes most intriguing - his awesome playmaking for his size.

People compare Barnes to these guys (Stanley Johnson, MKG, Josh Jackson), but he's a lot bigger than those guys. This dude is the same size as Bam (and might honestly be bigger) and i think can reasonably play C against most lineups in the league while also handling the ball as well as anyone his size this side of Simmons/Lebron/Luka. Thats a special prospect

Offensively I see a bit of Lamar Odom/Kyle Anderson. I think Barnes' shooting will improve a bit. He's a very nice passer, can get into the lane, but isn't tremendously vertically explosive at the college level in traffic (but has enough length to still get his shot off + finish). Defensively is where he will obviously shine. I'm kind of tending more toward Kirilenko as a comp on that end.

I think he's definitely getting overrated at this point. His offense is really bad. Could definitely see him as a Stanley Johnson/Winslow type impact. Should be a solid role player/glue guy as long as he understands his role at the next level

His NCAA passing numbers are closer to combo guards like Suggs, D'Angelo Russell, Fultz, and SGA than to any past 1-and-done wings. Of course, that doesn't remove the bust risk, but if he succeeds it'll probably be in a jumbo PG kind of role. Guys like that are always interesting to me because they create the potential to trot out a switch-everything lineup where all 5 players are 6'7"+ wings or bigs.

Well... literally speaking.. he looks like Dwight Howard. Cmon honestly, which of you looked at that combine pic and thought he looks like the twin bro, of D12.
