Wasn't 2006 the first year HS players weren't allowed in? I think that's why the dropoff was there, HS players weren't allowed in, and a lot of would be freshmen declared a year early the draft before, unsure of whether the rule was going to require 1 or 2 years of college. So you basically had a lot of 2-4 year college players who weren't good enough to go the draft before as HS'ers

*edit*
Also second rounders: Paul Millsap, Leon Powe, Craig Smith
Seems to suugest that the most value in the second round is to draft a very good college player who is deemed a tweener.

His whole draft class was a bust... outside of Micheal Redd( a 2nd rounder no less) there is no one that is of real significance.
Honestly are you trying to give props to a guy who in 40 mins barley gets 20 ppg on 41% shooting?
K-Mart was great in his years with the Nets he def. wasn't a bust for the Nets just the poor Nuggets who signed him to money he really wasn't deserving ....

He was never great... he was never even a top 10 power forward kinda expected if you are a top pick) ever in his career. He was one of the most mediocre 1st picks in recent times... In my opinion calling him great is disingenuous.

The Nets needed a bigmen at that time desperately although he never fully recovered from his injury he had in college he is by far the best bigmen of the 2000 draft class . Considering the rest of the Draft he was a great pick and the best the Nets could make , Redd or Miller wouldn't make any sense even in a do-over.
In his peak years with the Nets he was a top10 PF although bottom top 10 .

Did you understand why I said that year was a bust?
His career year(his one allstar appearance in 03/04) was 17/9 in 34 mins and that was with a prime Jason Kidd alongside him.
Lets go down the line.... in 03/04
KG
TD
Dirk
J'Oneal
Amare
Brand
Gasol
Zach Randolph
Sheed
Boozer
Saying he was the best pick the Nets could make doesn't make any real difference in a historically bad draft.
