This is where I’m at too.

I wonder if teams can use film to determine agility metrics? Having those metric would be huge, since it’s defending in space that’s the main concern.

This video breaks down his perimeter defense and says how it's one of his weaknesses:

Yes, I’ve seen this. The whole series is good.

Ersan Ilyasova was supposedly measured at 6-8 without shoes by the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks in 2019, for the NBA's new rule that every team had to provide updated height listings to the league, and also that the teams had to provide the league with what the heights of their players was without shoes on. The Bucks listed Ilyasova as having measured at 6-8 without shoes on.

Read on Twitter

In this picture, Alperen Sengun is clearly taller than Ilyasova. And Ilyasova also appears to be a bit closer to the camera, which would make him seem to be a bit taller by comparison, due to the camera angle.

Sengun is also standing next to Cedi Osman, who the Cavs supposedly measured at 6-7 barefoot. Sengun is noticeably taller.

The NBA's decades long "in shoes" height listing criteria (in shoes and rounded up), which is what people are thinking of when they come up with these so and so player is "undersized" views, Ilyasova would be listed at 6-9 or 6-10 (he was in fact previously listed at 6-10 by the NBA), and Osman would be listed at 6-8 or 6-9 (he was actually previously listed at 6-8 by the NBA).

In other words, the height that some people are claiming for Sengun, "6-8 or 6-9 in shoes", is actually the height that Osman is, and Sengun is definitely taller, as can be seen in that picture.

All of the speculation over these recent months that Sengun is, "only 6-8 or 6-9 in shoes", can officially end now.

Calling it on the height issue. Sengun is likely around 6’10” barefoot and 6’11.5” in average-size shoes.

Is that tall enough to play center in the NBA? Yes.

Sengen also clears other obvious hurdles for the center position: weight, thickness of frame, tree trunk legs, functional strength etc.

You guys wish that he is 6'10" or 6'11 he is a 6'9 and he look clearly smaller than Ilyasova. The only you need to look is at the shoulder have a more large or short neck or hair doesn't count for basketball. He can play at the 5 maybe yes on offense on defense no way in his life he is small and limited physically that's why I see him as a Saric type of guy.

Sabonis is a 6'11 he is much bigger than this kid.

I mean u can see him here (11) versus Usman that they have the same height and Usman is a 6'8 without shoes and a really short neck

Yeah Sengun's functional length isn't that great. He has a 7' wingspan with a wide chest, long neck which probably means his standing reach is pretty bad for a center. My guess is lucky if it's 9' but probably more like 8'11".

Probably not but can maybe be the next Alvan Adams. So similar to him on paper. Rebounds, assists, points, blocks, steals, size. I am a Phoenix Suns fan so I know a little bit about him but he was one of the best passing centers ever that people forget about. Also was good at defense with his timing. Some nice big to big passes in his highlights that I also see Sengun do really well.

Yeah it’s funny people always assume all white guys are built the same. McHale is extremely long. So is a guy like Pau. Very different than Sengun. Once again Sengun built much more like Kevin Love. It’s the obvious physical comp.

Nice stuff Corey. Always enjoyed your work.

Sengun only put up way better stats on both ends of the floor at a younger age vs way better competition

Yeah. If you judge by his shoulder line, it's shorter than even Cedi's. But he has than long ass giraffe neck and he's maybe 2 inches taller than him overall because of that.

Giraffe neck doesn't do **** for me. From the neck downwards he's similar or even smaller than Cedi.
His reach can't be great.

Imo a great comparison. Skill and playwise they are indeed very similar at that age.

Young Gasol operated mainly from the perimeter, he even spent quite a bit of time as SF in Barcelona.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

He did look smaller then what was advertised in the qualifiers still played great. Maybe it was the court size or comp. no clue he didn’t look that small size wise in Euro games.

But he is a 4 down to the tee.

Have you seen Sabonis next to 6'9,75 without shoes Turner? Sabonis "Measured 6’10’’ in shoes, with a 6’10.5’’ wingspan and 238 lbs at the 2015 Nike Basketball Academy".

Tbh, I think those could be similar to Senguns measurements, maybe with an inch or two longer wingspan. The guy hasn't turned 19 yet. Who knows, maybe he grows 1-2 cms without the height going straight up to his neck.

Alperen Sengun's draft range is anywhere from first round to high lottery. John Hollinger of the Athletic has Sengun ranked as his 4th best overall prospect in this draft. In a few years from now, there are going to be some people on this board who will look like a draft guru while others will look like total idiots. The real question is will you be man enough to stand up and take the flak if Alperen Sengun is struggling to succeed in the NBA?
