Re: DeMarcus Cousins. How good can he get?
the only thing that worries me about cousins isnt his "attitude" but his athleticism, a max vert of 27.5 inches is very bad. I know thats not a great way to gauge athleticism but still his vert is gonna be one of the worst for all starting centers.

Duncan dont jump a lot. Athlecism is a plus factor but skills are far more important. That said I am not saying Duncan is not athletic.

im not worried about his vert because his standing reach is outstanding. that being said. when he is trained by an NBA trainer im sure they will lead him on the right path. also vert can increase. also if hes in game and playing and worked up a sweat i would guarantee you his vert or anyone elses would be higher then just going in and jumping and moving on to the next drill.

I think that if you're a massive body with long arms and high standing reach, jump quickness and multiple jump quickness are more important than pure vertical.

the dude need to jump 6 inches to grab the rim. his vertical is fine, especially for his size.

Try more like 10 inches. He said grab, not touch, and he'd have to get his fingers around the rim which adds a few inches.

now youre just being nitpicky. the point remains, cousins can still reach almost 2 feet above the rim. Not exactly a 'below the basket' big man like was originally said..

MaxPreps was generous enough to upload new footage of Cousins (while in HS) for Kings fans:

Nice. And scary that a guy with a body bigger and longer than Dwight Howard says he patterns his game after Pau Gasol. If he's even half as skilled as Gasol with that size, he would easily be a top 3 Center in this league if not top 2.
Kings got a steal. And their fans should be just as optimistic as Thunder fans about the future.
Those two teams could be replacing the Spurs and Lakers as far as dominating the Western Conference for the next few years.

Pacers had the best record in the L but eventually lost to the eventual champs in the Pistons at the ECF.

Re: DeMarcus Cousins. How good can he get?
Here some quotes/material towards Cousins:

The Kings believe Cousins is a potential franchise center who will bring aggressiveness to their frontcourt.
"It's always an exciting time, especially when you've got a guy like DeMarcus Cousins coming in," Elie said. "And hearing what was said about him makes me sick. He's a pleasure to be around, and he wants to be good."
Cousins was dogged by questions about his maturity and attitude before last month's draft, in which he went fifth overall to the Kings. Elie said Cousins, 19, is a hard worker and continues to get into better shape.
Elie, the Kings' summer league coach, noted Cousins' rebounding and skilled offensive game among highlights of the team's first minicamp practice Friday morning.
But Elie also pointed out something Cousins hasn't been given much credit for displaying: leadership.
"(Cousins) was really vocal out there," Elie said. "He was encouraging his team to play harder. A lot of stuff you hear about him, and when you're around him, it's not the same guy."
Cousins has made a habit of not defending himself against negative perceptions. He said he always has seen himself as a leader. But he didn't do that at Kentucky last season.
"I took a back seat because we had John and we had Patrick," Cousins said. "That really wasn't my time, and now it's my time. It's a young team. There's no true leader. We have Tyreke (Evans), but he's not here right now, so it's my time to come in."
Cousins was aggressive rebounding the ball and showed off some impressive passing skills.
He looked comfortable facing up and making jump shots, too. Elie said the plan this summer, however, is to feature Cousins in the post, where his strength should be tough for teams.
Teammates had a hard time dealing with Cousins, as they struggled to get around him for rebounds. Elie said he believes Cousins will bring intangibles the Kings haven't seen since Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Co. were piling up wins.

Even while playing with the more experienced Casspi and Greene, Cousins wanted the ball late to try to win in a scrimmage, Elie said.
Cousins already is making a good impression on his teammates. They're glad to see the surly player they heard about is more like the "teddy bear" Elie describes.
"I heard a lot of rumors about him being, I don't know what," Casspi said. "But I'm happy that he's on the team, and he's a good guy. And as he gets better as a player, he'll be a force."

Re: DeMarcus Cousins. How good can he get?
A lot of people will eat crow if Cousins does well in the L. Especially in his first year.
It happens every year.
-Talking smack on player x.
-Player x does well for the most part.
-Eats crow.
I'm not going to name drop but a good portion of people in this board ate a healthy dish of crow at the end of the year when Tyreke Evans won ROY and finished the season with 20/5/6 and solidified himself as one of the L's best young talents already.
I mean, these people (not going to name drop) totally trashed Evans last year and are doing it again with Cousins. I would like to believe they have learned their lessons but I guess not.
It would be awesome if Cousins looked impressive for the most part throughout the year and see these people's faces at the end of the year.

Re: DeMarcus Cousins. How good can he get?
No one doubted Tyreke Evans had the talent to put up good numbers on a crappy team, if said crappy team was willing to let him dominate the ball to the detriment of his team. What people doubted was his ability to do well in the NBA without dominating the ball, because most thought there was no way a team could do well with him controlling the ball.
When Evans puts up these numbers on a winning team, then I will eat crow.

That is where you are wrong. Are you saying in a straight face that Evans is a detriment to the team? Seriously?
I could tell you right now, you are wrong. I mean, w/o Evans on roster, we would be contending for the worst record in the NBA with the Nets. With the early injury of Kevin Martin, the Kings best player would have been either Thompson or Beno if we played w/o Evans.
Earlier part of the season, the Kings were hovering around .500 for the first time in 3 years in the Western conference. At that point, Evans was getting MVP-considerations (although, it was a bit premature). So, there is a chance that Evans could lead a successful team soon.
Besides, just reading your description of Evans, you don't really have a clue. Sure, that description may fit pre-December portion of the season. But once the season progressed, Evans improved his ability to make plays for everyone. Your description is outdated and manufactured.
...
Although, you thought Evans at PG was "epic failure". And you don't see him as a "NBA star".
*While looking back through the various threads about Evans, a lot of people were wrong about Evans than I originally thought. Wow.*
