Can't believe so much controversy about Sengun when he is better than Sabonis in almost every way at the same age and even has 2 inches of wingspan on him if his 7'0.5" inch wingspan is true. He scored 10 points in 16 minutes and people jumped quick at the opportunity when the other teams center scored 14 points in 30 minutes as if he dominated him and a pg scored a basket on him on the pick and roll. Dude mentioned 3 times how athletic Greek Centers are and dude scored 14 points in 30 minutes.

Don't worry about him. Look at his take "turkish league could never ever have bigger or more athletic centers than Greek league"
This guy's turkish league hate is even more ridiculous than evanz's personal hate on alperen sengun. Disregard these two guys and this is a great thread to read.

He has a terrible habit of lunging towards the ball-handler. Definitely needs to work A LOT on his defensive technique and footwork

Say what you want about his defense, but his offensive upside is tremendous and he is really fun to watch.

I’ll stick to a bigger Saric as a fair comp. Look he’s uber talented for his age no question but what kind of offensive role is he really going to have in the NBA?
He is going to look small match up wise against centers right now... because he isn’t one lol. And he isn’t prodigiously skilled defensively, offense is what your buying here.
His shot is translatable, but his whole offensive game per say? Not likely.
Saric used to playmake and pass very well for his size.
NBA, different role altogether.
He actually didn't though. That was all made up nonsense hype by stupid US sports media. None of those claims about Saric's passing and play making in Europe were true. There wasn't even 1% of truth to it. It was just another example of the US sports media completely making stuff up about European basketball prospects.
Saric's style of play in the EuroLeague was basically the same exact usage he has had in the NBA. He was virtually the same exact player in both leagues.
False claims that US sports media has made about some previous European draft prospects like Saric shouldn't be used as a comparison with Sengun. So much of the things US sports media says about these European draft prospects is complete and total BS.

Turkey was last shown as the best league (local) in Europe in 2015 and 2016. Turkey is always one of the best leagues in Europe, although it is not the same as before. If you think that the Italian and Greek leagues are better than the Turkish league, you are probably a hater or basketball ignorant.

I'm not concerned with Sengun's size or position. But he's 18 (almost 19) and he was very obviously physically weaker and less athletic than Greece's centers. He's only almost 19, so he has a lot of time to improve his strength and athleticism. But compared to Greece's two main centers, Sengun looked way weaker and less athletic.
It's not a knock on him overall, it's just a reality check that he's 18 years old, and that the Turkish League is super overrated by US sports media.
Sengun is an incredibly good player for his age, even more so when you factor in that he is a center, and they usually develop the slowest out of all players. But some of the comments about his current level are exaggerated as to how good he is currently. He would have been a role player in any good EuroLeague team this season.
I'm not hating on Sengun at all, I am just trying to give some objective discussion, which there is very little of. It's almost 50/50 of people underrating him and people overrating him.

First of all, that quote you attributed to me is something I never stated here once. Second, it's nice to know that objective analysis is considered being a hater. Great forum standards.

Re: Alperen Şengün
due to the Dario Saric comparisons in the recent posts, i just became curious of how he did during 2 seasons he spent in Turkish league before he went to play for 76ers.
this is his stats from his first season;
http://www.tblstat.net/pd.asp?p=2624&s=1415
apparently back then, dario saric averaged 11 PPG, 7.6 RPG and 2.8 APG in 26 MPG. He was 20.5 years old when he first stepped on the court in his first game of Turkish league.
for those who want an objective opinion, compared to the past season, turkish domestic league was way more competitive back then. Nevertheless, Sengun creating now far superior stats despite being 2.5 years younger than Saric was back then is also an objective reality.
so, having watched closely saric's last 2 seasons before going to NBA, i personally believe there is great chance sengun will have a far superior career than saric had so far.

He’s 7th on my board right now. Do I really hate him? Or am I being honest that he’s going to have some issues on the defensive end?

Turkish Super League has never been considered the best national league in Europe. Never. Not ever.
The only national leagues in Europe that have ever at some point been considered "the best national league in Europe" are in order of era:
Soviet League 1950s, 1960s
Italian League 1970s, 1980s (Yugoslav League was probably a close second in the 80s)
Greek League 1990s, 2000s
Spanish League (current) 2010s, 2020s
At absolutely no time at all in the history of European club basketball was the Turkish Super League ever considered to be the best national league in Europe. Never at all. Not once. Not in any year ever. Not in any season ever.
It really shouldn't be too much to ask to keep discussions here in the realm of actual fact and reality.

The chart on this oldish article by espn https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/30503246/nba-draft-stock-watch-scouting-international-stars-no-1-pick-contender compares Alperens stats to Jokic, Saric, Marc Gasol, Porzingis, Nurkic etc really shows how productive Sengun is. Since that chart was made, Alperen actually increased his steals, blocks, and assists per game so he would fair even better. That chart implies that Saric was also a passer and actually had even more assists per game than Jokic at the same age but that is few game sample size and per 40 stats.

He was playing for Efes. A top-8 team in Europe that year who lost with Real in the playoffs with good teammates who can really score too. He wasn't playing in a bad team and all the game was trough him and that league probably isn't count to much for him he sign with Efes for the Euroleague and try to win that league after go to the Nba. The thing is that Saric always has been a strech four with light feets and good ball handling and isn't was a liability on defense and could playmake much more in Cibona and the youth teams.
The problem with Segun is not that he can't play at the 5 which is a problem too because he is not big. It's how easy players like Calathes or Sloukas blow by him yesterday when he was out of the paint on one one or in pick and roll more in a Fiba game without the 3 defensive seconds. I don't think he could play in a good Euroleague team at least the important games because of his lack of quickness lateral movement and slower feet.

The funny thing is that you say your own opinion as if it were objective information.
You're a pathetic hater. Your response to every user commenting on the Turkish league is to humiliate and insult the Turkish league. It's okay to do it once, but if you do it constantly, you're clearly a hater.
I am not the only one claiming the fact that Turkey was the best league in Europe in 2015 and 2016. Still available in the archive records of Eurohoops and other sites.
And please stop talking nonsense about the Turkish league.

If someone posted on any major European basketball forum that the Turkish League was the best national basketball league in Europe in 2015 and 2016, they would be laughed at and mocked, and maybe even banned for such outright and blatant level trolling.
There is no way in hades that Turkish League was as good or better than the Spanish League at that time. It's a zero percent chance that was true.

Why is it so hard to belive tho?
You have stated that Best league in Europe is Euroleague second is Eurocup.
Galatasaray won the Eurocup in 2015-2016 season and Fenerbahce lost to CSKA in EL Fİnal .
Next season Fenerbahce won the EL which they fully deserved .

Shares of Eurohoops and European Basketball sites are in the archive. I can easily prove it.

I don't give one single iota of a care about what some clueless blogger at Eurohoops said. Anyone saying that is automatically banned from ever being allowed into a serious discussion about European basketball.

Every time you reply you make yourself more funny. I don't expect you to respect people's opinions anyway. This is too much for you. But at least if the opinion you have belongs to a small minority you can give it some thought.

I'm gonna give you per-40 stats for three players vs. Greece and the Czech Republic, and you tell me which one you'd prefer to have in your frontcourt:
