What is up with marshon brooks's standing reach?

Post#1 » by sicknastydunker » Tue Jun 14, 2011 7:01 pm

he is 6'5.525 with a 7'1 wingspan, yet he has the same standing reach (8'5) as David lighty 6'6.5/6'8, Lacedarius Dunn 6'4, 6'6.25, Jordan Crawford 6'4.5/6'7, brandon Roy 6'6.25/6'8, Sasha Vujacic 6'6.75/6'6.5, DJ strawberry 6'3.75/6'5 and lots more with less wingspan and height. here's the list here http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-dra ... All&sort=6 scroll down to 8'5.

and it isn't some obscure condition where his arms are lower on his body look at him

Perhaps longer neck and head? Great example is Joakim Noah. Measured with fantastic height and wingspan for a power forward, yet he still ended up with a standing reach less than 9 feet, mainly due to the fact he has an absurdly long neck and head! Sounds silly, but true...

Long neck/head and/or wide shoulders. Is it really that hard to figure that out?

in that picture do his shoulders look wider than DJ strawberry? And does his head/neck look bigger than Dj Strawberry's

There's only so many explanations as to why. It's either those two I mentioned, or shoe thickness (I'm assuming they take those measurements when they're in their shoes.) There's not a whole lot of options here, so you're stuck with them whether it fits your eye test or not.

They measured him wrong. It's the only possible explanation.

I wouldnt put much into the standing reach value. I would go by the max no step reach. I suspect guys might want to not get their max standing reach, so they would get higher vertical jumps.
