I don't see a thread on Otto Porter here, so let's discuss his pro prospects, especially after helping Georgetown beat #5 ranked Louisville with 17 pts 11 rebs. Is it safe to say that he's the best SF prospect in the 2013 draft?

6'8'', long arms, good athlete, I wouldn't call him a great athlete, more in the mold of Tayshaun Prince in that regard. But, he also has a little bit of Shawn Marion in his game, as far as his style of play goes.

Season averages: 14.6 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.9 SPG, 1.2 BLK, 50 FG%, 45 3pt FG%

I don't think he'll be a star or anything, but could be a great role-playing SF on a contending team.

What are your thoughts on him?

I'd rank as the #1 SF.
Glenn Robinson, Alex Poythress behind him. Not sure if Dario Saric is a 3 or 4.

I think he'll end up somewhere 6-10 if he keeps playing like he has.

I don't trust his 3pt shooting numbers this year that much, such a big jump over last year and his FT shooting getting worse at the same time, would make me think hot stretch. Prince sounds right as a comp

Well, he shoots 2.5 threes and 3.8 FTs. I would say a sample size for FTs should be considered just as small.
Porter is playing a lot of time at SF for a slow paced Hoyas and as sophomore rebounds better than Prince did, who played PF at Kentucky if I recall correctly. Plus he finishes inside much better. So I would say rich man's Prince.
Should be primary target for Kings, I think.

i think what differentiates porter a little from tayshaun is that not only is porter a disciplined defender, he also looks to be disruptive as well, always looking to rotate to provide help, getting blocks and steals. i think that's what could possibly put him in the same category as Ak47 as a defender.

If the wizards aren't drafting in the top 5, I wouldn't mind this guy 6-10. Looks like the perfect glue player for a contender.

In general I really like him as a player, only thing that bothers me is the quickness and athletic ability.

i'd say he's average in that department. i share the same reservations about his lateral quickness and explosiveness. he is smart and he anticipates well though, so maybe he could make up for his lack of lateral quickness with those attributes.

in any case, i can't see him being a below average defender overall. he's defensive minded, with a high iq, plays with good effort and has excellent length. i'd be more concerned about how his lack of quickness (among other things) affects his offense.

Thing I'm saying is his lateral quickness aswell as playing in that zone raises some questions for me as to how big an impact he'll have on defense in the pros when he'll need to stay infront of X and Y in a defensive set that doesn't highlights his advantages almost to the max and hides some of his shortcomings.

Don't think it gives us a fair way to project/evaluate him to the next level, or at the very least doesn't make our lifes easier.

His length and IQ are his main assets and translate immediately though and down the line would more then make up for his lack of quickness, but would it be enough to put him in that AK/Marion level that people project? not sure.

Also his 3pt shooting at the next level remains a question mark, and as you mentioned the impact he'll have offensively where now he's having it alot easier against smaller shorter competition in a specific system which he won't always have in the league(unless he's lucky)

I really want to hold him in a very high regard and think what I'm seeing from him at the collage level will project, but I'm just not sure - atleast to the impact level expected/will be expected of him coming into the draft.

I watched the G-town game yesterday, and Porter is growing on me. He's growing period. He's so much stronger and I think an inch or so taller than last season. The added strength and the fact that he's shooting better shows he's a worker. His length is stunning. And he's not so much the timid kid he looked like last season. I think he's built for the fast break, so G-town's plodding offense doesn't help his stats - though perhaps it's improved his skils.

Watching the St. Johns game - and he continues to impress me with his overall game - I don't think he has a weakness. He's really learning to use his length offensively in various ways. I'd compare his progress to Paul George's. He has that kind of ability, skills, and potential, imo.

He's putting up Batum like numbers.

As a Cavaliers fan im really hoping they draft Otto Porter. SF is our biggest weakness.

I think OKC will target this guy with the Raptors pick they own. He's long, defensively solid and he can hit 3's. Basically he can be their Shane Battier going forward.

Len's like a taller version of your Zeller - but with less court awareness. He had very good games against Kentucky and Duke, but other than that - he hasn't done much. Expect nothing out of him as a rookie.

Seems solid at everything great at nothing..plus im a little worried about his speed and athletic ability

I'm NOT worried about his speed and athletic ability. I've seen him called a below average athlete. He's NOT below average. He's a very good athlete, and he runs the court really well. And these days, having a high BBIQ makes you the exception, so he's got a step up there over most of the other prospects. His body is still filling out, so we haven't seen the best of what he's going to be - which is going to be a really good 2-way player in the NBA.

Otto Porter is my #1 big board prospect for the Hornets (assuming they're out of the top 4)
