2013 Lotto Re-Do
It's only been a couple of games, but we've had an offseason full of other observations. I was interested to see how people would see the draft going now if we knew everything then that we know now. This isn't meant to be a final assessment, so anyone who has their knickers in a twist about how it's too early to evaluate can sod off.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Victor Oladipo

Awful, just awful. Noel and Bennett at 3-4 in a redo? And Schroder should definitely be in the top-5.

Re: 2013 Lotto Re-Do
It was known that Noel might be out for the whole season when he was being touted as the likely number one pick. Nothing has changed since then. Where would you expect him to be?
Bennett still has a very high potential. I think you might be taking these four games way too seriously. We can try to draw conclusions from them, but changing our rankings too drastically using them as a basis would be a knee jerk reaction. I like Schroeder just as much now as I did before the draft. I don't think he's shown much more since he was drafted than we all knew about him before hand. Do you?
Put your own order so we can see what different people think.

I'll put them in tiers because its early.
1 - Oladipo, MCW, Schroeder.
2 - McLemore, KCP, Giannis
3 - Zeller, Porter, Adams, Noel
4 - McCollum, Olynyk, Bullock, Gobert, Bennett
5 - Hardaway, Len (like him but the injuries drop him down)

2 - McLemore, KCP, Giannis
3 - Zeller, Porter, Adams, Noel
4 - McCollum, Olynyk, Bullock, Gobert, Bennett

I'm guessing then that you weren't that high on Noel before the draft? Or were you expecting him to play this season after tearing all of his knee ligaments?
Also why do injuries affect a guy like Len who you claim to like, but not McCollum?
I like Schroeder, but what makes him top three?

I'd rather have Nate wolters than hardaway or bullock.

Re: 2013 Lotto Re-Do
I feel like If we are talking about a draft redo then Tim Hardaway Jr. definitely deserves a look. Currently he is the best 3PT shooter in his class (43%) and if we adjust his minutes he would be the leading scorer (over MCW and Oladipo). Also out of all the rookies in the 10 ten in scoring he has the highest FG% (46%)
He's the most NBA ready player out of the whole class and the different ways this kid can score is remarkable. I wish he would get more burn, but it's hard for him to get minutes on the Knicks when he is 3rd SG on the depth chart.
On a final note, I have never seen so much confidence from a rookie especially one picked outside of the lottery. The kid has ice in his vein every time he throws a shot up he knows it's going in. I think he'll end up the second best SG in this class after Oladipo and end up having a better NBA career than KCP or McLemore. The kid has stud SG written all on him

Knowing what I know now? Coupled with my dislike for Bennet before the draft?

Re: 2013 Lotto Re-Do
How much hindsight do we want to apply here? Should we take into account who they signed in free agency afterwards? Or do we go by what their needs were at the time, and assume that they'd do something different in free agency?
I only ask because the Pistons made a number of moves after the draft. Knowing that we could get Jennings (or Teague if we offered enough $), I think that we still draft a SG, as we clearly had a need for one at the time, and he's been playing well for us so far.
Also, did anyone have Bennett in the top 5 of this draft? I figured that he'd be there for the Pistons.

Based on what I've seen and potential, I wouldn't be surprised if Giannis ends up as a top 2 player from this class.

Re: 2013 Lotto Re-Do
1. Cleveland Cavaliers - SF/PF Anthony Bennett: I don't see them changing their mind about his talent vs the rest yet. If they do it again the change is he doesn't play a game until Christmas
2. Orlando Magic - SG Victor Oladipo: No reason why they'd change
3. Washington Wizards - PF/C Nerlens Noel: I saw them picking Porter over Noel because they wanted earlier production and to start at SF. Now that Porter isn't ready and Ariza is playing well at SF they pick the widely rated higher Noel
4. Charlotte Bobcats - PG Michael Carter-Williams: They jump in on the MCW train and try to fit him with Kemba at PG/SG
5. Phoenix Suns - C Alex Len: Probably no reason for them to change
6. Philadelphia via New Orleans - SF Giannis Antetokounmpo: PHI is thinking long term, I see Giannis doing very well in a redraft and there's a chance he goes 1st
7. Sacramento Kings - SG Ben McLemore: Think they like their guy
8. Detroit Pistons - SF Otto Porter: Fits their team needs
9. Utah Jazz - PG Trey Burke: Think they keep their guy too, though if MIN could do it over again they keep this pick
10. Portland Trailblazers - PG/SG CJ McCollum: Will be a nice fit when he plays
11. Philadelphia 76ers - PF/C Cody Zeller: May have fallen this far if CHA didn't pick him anyways, they get a big
12. Oklahoma City Thunder - C Steven Adams: Same pick
13. Minnesota Timberwolves - SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: Probably wanted to take him anyways
14. Milwaukee Bucks - PG Dennis Schroeder: Upside
Biggest overall loser in the 1st round is probably Olynyk.

So Trey Burke out of the lottery? Wow. He is looking like a solid PG for the Jazz
The Mavericks had the 13th pick then traded down to end up with Larkin who was picked 18th if I remember correctly.
With what I have seen so far my lottery would be something like this:
1. Victor Oladipo
2. Michael Carter - Williams
3. Giannis Antetokoumpo
4. Steven Adams
5. Trey Burke
6. McLemore
7. Caldwell - Pope
8. Noel
9. Alex Len
10. CJ McCollum
11. Shroeder
12. Tim Hardaway Jr
13. Olynyk
14. Mason Plumlee

Re: 2013 Lotto Re-Do
You know, looking back on it, I'm surprised by the number of competent looking SGs coming out of this class. Not long ago SG was the least-deep position in the NBA, now we could see 4 starting caliber SGs added all at once (although it'll take a year before THjr gets a starting job at least, hard to tell what'll happen with him in NY).

God, this draft sucks. And I'm stuck with Bennett.
If I were the Cavs redoing this, I think I'd maybe just take Giannis 1st overall.
