What are the major differences between the two giants when they were being drafted (other than weight)?

Tavares got a better base, he is also quicker, is a little bit more raw offensively, but I like him more as a prospect overall.

I've seen very little of Taveres, so maybe I'm not being fair, but my impression is that Gobert is quicker and more mobil. I'm very intrigued with Gobert.

you think Tavares is quicker?

i really don't understand why these 2 dropped to where they did when they were drafted.

The difference is Walter Tavares moves like he's running in mud. He's nowhere near the prospect that Rudy Gobert was at the same stage, or what he is now. Tavares' ceiling is Calvin Booth. A below average player, that stays in the league for years as a 3rd center.

Tavares ceiling is Asik.
Gobert? I'm not so sure, but he got really big issues with his motor and concentration, I like the Shawn Bradley comp.

I don't know a whole lot about Tavares, but I like Gobert's defensive potential, he's already a solid shot blocker, and I'm eager to see where he goes.

What? Gobert has absolutely no issue with his motor and concentration... They are actually strengths of his.

A more athletic and mobile Shawn Bradley with better hands

I think it's foolish to put stark limits on Tavares' potential because of the way he looks when he runs. But I'd guess that Gobert is built to likely be more durable, since he is lighter.

Tavares runs funny, but he isn't slow. he actually moves his feet pretty well for being a behemoth.

Yeah whenever I saw Gobert get burn last season, he was moving at full-throttle and constantly putting himself in a position to make plays.

Michael Johnson ran like he had stumps for legs and was the fastest man on Earth.

Tough to tell with Tavares though until we see him against the big boys. Physically, Gobert is transitioning very well already and still looks like he has barely scratched the surface of what he's capable athletically.

Yea it sucks he didn't get much burn in Summer League and then decided to stay in Europe ...

Rudy Gobert is a likely breakout candidate this year in the NBA. I expect him to get a lot more burn and really capitalize. He is very active, is showing better instincts on defense and will thrive as a post defender in the league. Still has room for improvement on both ends, but his activity level was great in international play and he really disrupted Spain when they went head to head. No reason to sit him this year.

He was one of my choices for the Warriors during the 2013 NBA Draft and he was available, but the Warriors ended up drafting Nemanja Nedovic

Kanter could certainly play himself out of the role, but Booker also will compete for PT. We will see if he gets enough minutes to really demonstrate how he has improved. Good looking player though.

I really like Booker for that team. Everything seems to run smoother with him at the pf position. It really depends on what they want to do with Kanter. Right now the Jazz have 3 prospects to develop at the center position and it looks like they've chosen to stick with Favors and one of Kanter or Gobert. I'm guessing one of them gets traded, most likely Kanter.

Was referring to Gobert with my comment, but Booker has looked great as well.

SSS, but Rudy's averages per 40 are 12.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, and he's shooting 62% from the field. The problem remains turnovers - at 3.0 - but that's not surprising for an inexperienced big. Kid has a very bright future.
