Who Is The Most Underrated Prospect for 2015

Post#1 » by sweetcity » Tue Apr 7, 2015 5:07 pm

We've seen some guys shoot out of nowhere in the last month and really move up draft charts.

Cam Payne
George Lucas
Kris Dunn
Sam Dekker
Jerrell Martin
Kevon Looney
Justice Winslow

Who is now the most underrated of all the prospects, the guy no one is talking. My guy is Jerian Grant and Stanley Johnson. Both have prototypical NBA size for their positions. Both are winners. Grant is a senior, so maybe is upside is limited. Stanley Johnson now in the 10-14 range is incredible value for a 6"7 240lb true small forward

I don't really see how Stanley Johnson qualifies. He was everyone's top 5 guy and he played himself out of that. He isn't under the radar, he's just sliding due to poor play late in the year.

Even though he won the National Championship game MVP, I feel like the title of most underrated prospect at the moment goes to Duke's Tyus Jones.

Cam Payne, too, but he's moving up from what I gather.

Delon Wright somehow remains in the 2nd round despite having fixed his jump shot. Dude is a 6'5" PG and an incredibly productive player. There's no reason he should be behind any PGs except for Russell and Mudiay, and maybe Jerian Grant. There isn't a hole in his game, he has it all.

He's moving down, but really for what reason, he's a freshmen, of course he is going to be hot and cold. He went from a top 5 talent to top 12. Whoever gets him at the end of the lottery is getting good value

It's almost certainly someone international... just because of the lower level of screening (that we see - their local teams will screen quite rigorously of course) for international prospects. There is enough of a bball playing population outside of the US to match that inside the US (possibly to exceed that inside the US); that population will generate good players. Statistically, we see 3 (Hezonja, Porzingis, George Lucas) real internationals (I'm not counting Mudiay) in draftexpress's predicted first round - that's just way too low given the actual size of relative populations involved. As NBA fans we will only see that underrated prospect when he becomes a "second round steal" or blows up in Europe if undrafted....

I got Timothe Luwawu as an underrated prospect at the moment. I am not sure Oubre is a much better prospect and they share a number of similarities.

Granted, I haven't seen that much game footage of him (just portions of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT9Oml9SAiI - he's #15 with the green shoes, some good action after the 1 hr mark if you wanna skip ahead), so I am mostly going off tangibles and how they translate to the NBA but... Legit size and athleticism, he's got handles and shooting, plus he is a competitor on defense with a good energy level. Reminds me of Gerald Green in some ways. I think you have to know you're getting someone who needs some seasoning but he has good long-term potential.

I think people are more willing to forgive up and down freshman if the ceiling is really high. With Stanley Johnson, he just looks like a role player. He's not a great athlete, not a great defender, not a great shooter...

He's a nice player and he should be in the NBA for a good long time, but people want to swing for the fences early in drafts, not be happy with a good solid role guy. I think Johnson's hype and fast start helped mask some of that early on. Also, for a guy who was sold as a clutch winner, he disappeared in a lot of big games.

Cameron Payne, that guy has no business going as late as he is currently projected. He is lillard esque.

Bobby Portis. He's projected to go in the late teens but he should be a lotto pick.

Interested in this George Lucas character from Brazil.

A 6'6" PG with a 7' wingspan that can pass, dribble and play good D is someone that has some value.

there are tons of guys but delon wright not being projected for the first round is the most criminal.... he is one of the best college pg's to come out in the last 10 years....

towns not being a consensus #1 pick is not quite the head scratcher but is also up there....

and the other small college guys do deserve a mention along with payne... long and livingston..

I think it's Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. He is a guy who I think will be a much better NBA player than college player.

It's been said a lot but I doubt he will make it outside of the lottery. He's the best pure PF in the draft. He is an instant role player who could develop into a very good role player. Think Milsap or David West. A team in need of a PF should draft him. Has the BBIQ and is a player who can gain 20 pounds without losing anything athletically.
