He plays exactly like Al Hortford but with a little more 3 point shooting

I've rarely seen such a wide range of comparisons.

Couldn't that be an indicator of high upside? (But also bust potential) I mean, you're talking both about players primarily known for their offensive prowess, and players known primarily for their defense... players known for playing inside, and players known for playing outside etc.

It's as if everyone is seeing something a bit different in him.

Rasheed Wallace after going without food for five days and no post-up game?

Michael Jordan, but six inches taller with a worse handle, worse speed, worse lateral movement, worse defense, better three point shot, worse at taking contact, and worse potential.

Alright, more serious answer...maybe Clifford Robinson? He was a poor rebounding stretch 4.

He's much more fluid with the ball than Ibaka.

As you can see Porzingis and Gasol look quite alike, Gasol being a bit better, he was playing in a much better team though and his minutes were mainly as a SF, while porzingis plays PF mainly. Gasol's development during the year was amazing, while Porzingis is been kind of consistent through the year.

The key difference is that Pau's team won the Spanish National Cup and Pau was named MVP. Kristap's team was fighting for relegation all season.

Yes, and the position they played, Gasol was mainly having minutes at SF, he was way better at the end of the season, in the link you can check his numbers for Play-offs (41% from 3pt range or 0.84 value per minute to start with), just amazing. My opinion is that you can expect some kind of big improvement from Porzingis during next 1-2 years, then you have an all-star PF, if he does not improve that much, then you have a decent rotation big.

Gasol did not have a polished post game at all when he was drafted, he developed it in Memphis. I see Porzingis having a similar development, I would take him for sure after the 6th pick. Porzingis at this point is a great prospect of Face Up PF, he can bust the same Towns or Okafor can, these two won't be available after the first 2 picks.

Gasol played mostly at PF that season, at least since december-january. But you can't really compare his impact with Porzingis, Gasol those final months displayed a dominance in the spanish league that i have only seen to Sabonis.

I just don't really understand the Gasol comp. Gasol is one of the most skilled bigs ever and is a great passer. I thought that Porzingis has work to do in both areas?

Not everyone gets to play against 35 year old Robinson.

Prozingis couldn't even do that to a 40 year old Robinson. It's not in his game.

This has been posted before, but this is Porzingis going through two defenders and dunking over 7'3" Walter Tavares, the ACB's leading shot blocker.

Channing Frye. Outside shooter, can't pass, can't defend, can't rebound, can swat a shot or two as help defender.

People should stop comparing him to Pau. Pau was Euroleague superstar at age 20/21, guy was on completely different level and was far more promising prospect.

Pau in general is so underrated its crazy.

Porzingis is 19-20, Gasol at age 19-20 was barely playing at Barça (99-00 season), he exploded the year after (00-01), if Porzingis were to stay in Europe he will probably sign with a powerhouse this summer, likely Barça or Madrid, an I have no idea how his impact could be one year from now, but they are definetly comparable as prospects, Porzingis numbers at age 20 are much better than Gasols.
Pau had a similar physique and they are comparable athletically for sure, Pau added weight and we will see if Kristaps can, but right at this point their games and bodies are fairly similar.

To mention him and Pau in the same sentence without noting that stark difference in BBIQ and passing is just wrong.

He's no-where near as intelligent and skilled as Pau, who was a supreme passer and decision maker.

Porzingis lack of BBIQ raises serious question marks for me.

He can dunk a basketball so he already is much more athletic than Frye.

At which point in Europe he was supreme passer and high BBIQ player?
