Yes. IMO he's a smaller more unathletic Mayo with a working brain and more off the ball craftiness utilizing v-cuts/curls. I don't think he's a Reddick/Korver tier pure shooter either. Never understood these Brandon Roy comps either, he is shifty but doesn't have an arsenal of hestiatation moves/one one creating abilities, no where near the leaper and doesn't post up. He struggles converting inside the arc/in transition and can't really collapse a D, although Kentucky usually played 2 bigs with no range that cut off driving lanes.

Murray seems more athletic than OJ Mayo imo.

http://www.phillymag.com/news/2016/06/21/sixers-draft-jamal-murray-kentucky/

Jamal Murray has athleticism concerns that threaten his effectiveness on both ends of the court.

Murray’s physical profile is the first place to start, as at just 6-foot-4 Murray is undersized for the two, and doesn’t have the elite wingspan to make up for it. That right there presents some limitations to overcome on the defensive side of the court.

When you add in the fact that Murray is relatively slow-footed for a guard, with struggles changing direction, moving his feet laterally, and getting into a good defensive stance, and the overall defensive picture is pretty bleak. Murray will give effort on the defensive side of the court and has good-enough awareness, but his athletic and physical limitations were something he struggled to overcome in the SEC, and are likely to be even more pronounced at the NBA level.

If the concerns were limited to just the defensive side of the court, you would probably live with that concern. But his athletic profile has the chance to limit him offensively as well.

Murray really struggled to turn the corner against some of the stronger defensive teams, with the NCAA tournament game against Indiana sticking in the back of the mind of anybody who watched it. Not only did Murray struggle to turn the corner and get by the first line of defense, but he struggled to get open off the ball as well, running around desperately trying to lose his man, usually to no avail.

Calipari needs to learn when to shut up. He likes the attention too much. He is not helping Murray at all with comments like that.

Isn't he helping him though?

Being drafted #5 overall seems like best-case scenario for Murray. The 76ers and the Lakers are drafting Simmons and Ingram. The Celtics, if they don't end up trading the pick, will not be drafting Murray. If the Celtics do trade the pick, I think most people assume Dunn would be the player teams are trading up for.

And then the Suns have the fourth pick, and I don't see them drafting Murray considering Booker is the same player as Murray.

So #5 seems like the earliest/most likely landing spot for Murray.. Calipari must have kept this in mind before he blurted out that revelation

(I do agree with you that Calipari loves the attention)

Murray wanting to go to the Wolves makes a ton of sense. Minnesota is a young team on the rise and Murray fits with Towns (Kentucky alum) and Wiggins (Canadian national team).

His PG skills are just average. His measurements are kind of bad. His defense at UK wasn't that great. I think Murray could be a prime Mo Williams.

Based on the Wolves history I'm a little scared to pass on Murray. His scouting report is that he is a very good shooting combo guard that isn't a true PG and is a little small for SG. His athleticism also may limit his defensive ability in the NBA and may make it hard to get to the basket.

Here are some excerpts from the scouting report for the last guy with those traits the Wolves passed on:

"One of the bigger concerns about Curry’s offensive game is that he does not project to become a prolific slasher at the NBA level. His first step is average at best."

"Defensively, Curry puts a solid effort in, but is extremely limited by his poor physical tools on this end of the floor. He lacks great height, length or strength, and possesses below average lateral quickness, making him a potential defensive liability when being matched up with some of the more explosive guards the NBA is known for. Murray's inability to turn the corner makes DLo's first step looks explosive in comparison IMO
