Brice Johnson

I think this kid is being hugely slept on in the draft process. He reminds me so much of Shawn Marion. I think whomever ends up with him is going to get one of the biggest steals of this draft(along with Malachi).
I dont know if he'll ever endup with ball skills. But his ability to switch on D, catch lobs from anywhere and steal the ball is going to be a boon to some lucky squad. Hopefully the Knicks via purchased pick.
Other thoughts on Brice?

So he's the Matrix reloaded just because of his second jump ability. He doesn't project to be a lockdown wing defender, he bites on every pump fake and can't stay home. He basically is a energizer bunny/garbageman who will crash the glass, get putbacks and rim run. For a 4th year player you would expect more range and polish. To me he is a wiry tweener who not have the frame to handle imposing 4s and may not be fast enough to stay with 3

Johnson seems to always be in the right place at the right time, either that or he is one of the luckiest guys on the planet. Not sure how high he goes, but a guy that shoots over 60% from the field isn't taking bad shots. Thinking this guy plays with his brain.

Highly skilled at what he does.. I dont see how he isnt deemed high lottery. Dude has GREAT hands around the hoop. Imagine Brice as starting PF in Golden State, next to Bogut and Green. Would be unreal

He's fine for later first, should at worst be a pretty fun energy guy . with an outside chance that he's more

First rounds typically belong to the freshmen and a few elite seniors. In one end it is purely about potential for teams looking for the next superstar, and on the other, security for those who cannot afford to gamble. I expect Brice Johnson to be picked at the 20-30 range, where the playoff teams are picking.

I hope Pacers pick him, Turner-Johnson would be a perfect fit. Ofcourse with those two at 4-5 you need creators at 1-2-3, which they have in Teague-Ellis-George.

I wanted Pacers to pick him too but we no longer have the 20. I'm hoping we can buy back in somewhere between 24 and 37 and he'd be on my list. actually I have a bunch of guys with names starting with B that I'd want in that range.

Johnson would thrive with Lebron but Cavs have no picks, gj.
If Tristan Thompson was picked 4th this guy has to be picked in the late lottery( he is way better than Tristan Thompson)
He is gonna be an impact player right away.

I think a smart team takes him. A star in his role

This is the likely scenario, certainly for the next 2-3 years. But he seemed to improve a lot year over year in college, I think it's possible he could continue this in the NBA- increase shooting range to 3, work on a face-up game, etc.
His defense is going to need work though. I'm hoping that they focused more on offense while he was at NC (his FT shooting improved a lot for example.) Biting on a lot of fakes seems to imply not enough defensive coaching and work, in some of the videos it looks like literally no one taught him how to make the most of his physical attributes on defense, and how to minimize his deficiencies. He seems to have good straight line speed, lateral quickness doesn't seem nearly as good.

Reminds me of his UNC counterparts John Henson and Wright

They needed depth at both PF and C, and he gives it to them.
The only thing that concerns me about him is his strength. He weighed in under-weight at the combine - after supposedly gaining a lot of muscle weight in his time at UNC. Is it that he built up the weight in the offense and simply couldn't keep it on during the season?

Looks like he has some floor stretch potential. He was hitting jumpers from just inside 3 point range today.

Watching him in Summer league it's another instance where a guy who looked like a true big in college suddenly looks like a three in the pros. The different size in terms of the dudes he's matching opposite never ceases to amaze me.

He looks kinda weak on the court, he isn;t crashing the boards enough, he isn't putting him in a position to even rebound.
he isn't screening and he isn't part of the PNR game yet but he has tons of potential.
