not that hard to me. he'll just push them out of the paint and force them to shoot away from the basket. how is Giannis and Davis going to establish deep position on Zion in the post?

They're going to get to the rim on him like they do on anyone else, without the ball, dribble moves, screens, whatever. I really doubt he'll just push them out of the paint at will, that's not really how basketball works. He'll be hard to straight up back down, for sure.

If it were as easy as that, everyone would just be playing thick, strong PF's and no one would get paint position

well off course there are a number of ways they can score on him. he's no different in that distinction than any other player. but i thought you were specifically talking about Zion guarding AD and Giannis in the post, which i don't really see as a mismatch. regardless i don't really see why he would need to be hidden from those guys. if your point is that zion is at a disadvantage contesting their shot, fine, but that's not exactly groundbreaking. you can say that with respect to most 4s and 5s in the league. i think he'll still be fine at the 4, but that's essentially part of the tradeoff slotting him there.

and it's not unlike the majority of thick, strong PF's in the league (of which group zion would immediately be the thickest and strongest) aren't at least above average post defenders, so i'm not getting your point there.

I think if the Sun's get the first pick they might trade back to 2 for Morant. Zion doesn't make sense for them. Morant makes too much sense.

They have a hole at PF and Zion is a generational talent. How does he not make sense?

Yeah, that's the moment when people start to overthink things because they're bored of having consensus no 1 pick. Zion fits Suns well - he has potential to be difference maker on D (they're lacking that a lot), and potential to become facilitator of offense with his playmaking (that's perhaps the most underrated thing about Zion, that wasn't on display because of Duke's lack of spacing but he's clearly a good passer), and that's another thing they're lacking because Booker seems to be just fine secondary playmaker. Suns won't have spacing issues either if they find a good shooter on PG spot (Bridges, Booker, Warren).

On the other hand, while Morant would be good fit for Suns offensively, he's also awful defender and I don't think building around Morant-Booker duo in modern league on perimeter would be that good idea considering that would be potentially the worst 1-2 duo on D in a league, while also having Ayton in the back as rim protector.

The only issue with Zion in Suns would be Zion-Ayton fit. While on defense Zion is a great fit for Ayton because ZW has tremendous defensive awareness what is obviously a thing that Ayton is lacking, on offense, Ayton even this season underperformed because he was mainly used as a finisher, but because of Suns' playmaking issues, his offensive usage wasn't as big as perhaps it should be. He has potential to stretch a floor on midrange very well, but if you ask me who's the player I want to give a ball on low post, and generally who's the player I want to give a ball on Suns team - that's definitely Zion in this case.

Generally speaking, despite terrible season, Suns have talented roster, but because of their players limitations and obvious holes in roster, it's very hard to find really good fit for them on both sides of the floor. They're quite like Cavs without LeBron before he came back, and during 15-17 runs. But Zion is just so good that you build everything around him, and not taking care too much about a fit, while I still think that it's actually a good fit to match him with this Suns team.

For all of those that are worried about Zion's size and if he's big enough to play the 4. Brooklyn starts Carroll at the 4 and Philly starts Harris. Do both guys have an inch or 2 on Zion? Ya. But let's not act like the inch or two makes them more of a presence down low than Zion.

And Brooklyn just played Dudley the majority of the 2nd quarter as their 5. If overweight Dudley can handle playing big minutes at the 5 in the playoffs against Philly. I think Zion will have no trouble at the 4. Let's not over think this.

That's nonsense. The Suns need a PF more than they need a PG and Zion is 3 tiers above everyone else in this draft. The Suns would be ecstatic to draft him.

Had to go back 5 pages to find Zion's thread, just goes to show how much of a lock he is to go #1. His name doesn't even really get talked about anymore for the draft.

It looks like all signs are pointing to Zion making the USA team for the World Cup this year. The dude is going to put on a show. Those games tend to turn into blowouts and track meats. So I plan on seeing plenty of flashy Zion dunks. But it will be great to see Zion practicing and playing against better competition before the NBA season tips off. We are going to see a lot of Zion this summer.

On a side note. One big negative of Zion going to New Orleans as a massive Zion is basically the second the Pels won the lotto, that was the end of Zion talk. Go to the Pels board and they have a Zion thread with only 48 posts and probably 75% of those posts are fans from other teams saying congrats. Pretty much if any other team not named Memphis won the lotto, I still would've been able to get my Zion talk fix on the team boards. I mean it has been a month and a half since this thread has had a post in it. I know he has been talked about to death (this thing is 100 pages), just weird how such a hyped prospect has had 0 talk for a month and a half.

Called it the second New Orleans won the lottery, the Zion Williamson hype is officially dead.

If the Knicks, Bulls or Lakers had won the lottery, it would still be a major storyline today. What a waste for the NBA. Even if he had gone to Cleveland or Phoenix, Zion would be a bigger story than this complete silence. It's too bad.

The hype will pick up again after the draft, its only dead because its draft season and we know he's a lock for #1. If the media won't bother to give any time to small market teams, then thats on them. Tired of stories being fully based on the perspectives of big market teams. Some trade proposals these sites post are also asinine (BleacherReport put out a article that had Orlando trading #16, Bamba, Isaac, and Fultz for #3, Lance Thomas, and Ntilikina...)

The thing about Zion is that he is both strong and quick. Your typical beefy guy doesn't move that quickly. In today's NBA, teams would just take those guys outside and then drive right by him or force him to defend a pick and roll. Zion has both elite strength and speed.

There are going to be times where taller players get a quick pin on him close to the basket and get an easy shot up. Its a concern. That said, his strength and quickness is something we haven't seen before.

Yes, definitely judge us on the volume of posts on RealGM.

There are Pelicans forums that had easily 300+ posts just on the lotto night.

The city has radio stations talking Zion talk daily. There is hype here for it.

Bro I don’t doubt it and I know there are some true and passionate Pelicans fans. I didn’t mean this as a slight against fans like you. But you have to admit that the Zion hype - whether on ESPN or online - died quick after NO won the lottery. I just hope Pelicans fans will show up and fill the arena for this guy and recreate the Zion frenzy.

It really hasn't. They hype is live, the hype right now is the draft and trades (2 weeks away). Zion going #1 is a sure thing. If the Knicks or Lakers won the lottery, the stories wouldn't be about Zion, it'd be about how it impacts FA and draft day trades. We can all do with a little less talk of big market teams that have been run terribly over the years.

It was bad enough that the media has pushed the “we want everyone in NY and LA” narrative forever, but it’s really sad that fans have finally bought in and actively root for it.
