Which players will have least trouble finding a role in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Barnsey » Tue Jun 20, 2017 3:40 pm

Some guys will get playing time because they have elite talent (Fultz, Ball, etc etc), but which guys in particular have value that's predicated on the fact that they'd be useful to an NBA coach? I.e. maybe they can stretch the floor as well as defend. Maybe they're a high character guy who can protect the rim. Etc. Which players have a particularly clear path for modern-day NBA fit?

On the flipside, which guys have a murky path for their NBA use?

outside the lottery picks 2-way players in college like Ojeleye ,Lydon, Iwundu and Kuzma should be rotation level players for 12 years.

Shooters will find roles.

Non-shooters will have a murky path unless they are elite defenders.

That is all.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

High IQ players with at least one positive skill generally find a way into rotations quicker than most. NBA coaches have no patience for young players who have trouble picking up defensive rotations, take bad shots and are generally out of position too often.

Kennard for sure. He could suck at everything except shooting and he'll find a bench role some where. Worst case for him would be Steve Novak or Jason Kapono, who had a pretty decent and long careers. He's extremely low risk.

Both Kapono and Novak played themselves out of the league even as shooting was becoming more and more prioritized by teams. He's going to have to be better than them to guarantee himself minutes or he's just another Anthony Morrow. He looks far more skilled than all 3 IMO.

Novak is a 14 year veteran and Kapono a 9 year veteran.

Kennard is exceptional off the screen. He is going to be shooting a lot of curls next season. His shot distrubtion is going to be a lot like younger Steph Curry.

I like Kennard, I just didn't like the players that poster compared him too. Both struggled to Ben rotation players their entire careers.

I gave worst case scenarios. Like Paulbball said, both these guys made a spot in the league despite their limited skill set. Kennard will likely be better but even if he's not, he'll have a role on some team.

Markanen should at worst be a Channing Frye type roleplayer because of his shooting.
Jordan Bell late should be able to always have a role because of his defense and athleticism.

Tatum.

He can get off a shot in the NBA on day 1. Anyone like that can find a role.

Devin Robinson and Sterling Brown are two guys who immediately come to mind.
