1) it's an arbitrary threshold

2) there is stat inflation in the NBA league wide now, so I'm not really sure what it even means

how many rookies would've posted 17/7 in this NBA vs. 2005 or 1995 or 1985?

Goofy post, if it was easy, it would have been done already of recent but it's rare. This Trae hate is lame. We get it, you weren't high on him, move on. Greatness doesn't need your approval

i don't care one way or the other re: Trae. I'm just letting you know what it is.

No you aren't, you are just hating. He is doing this in 30MPG, find me those who are doing this with a limited amount of mins?

i don't understand. are you saying 30mpg is low for a rookie? how about the 28 usage rate?

For the other names listed, yeah!

28 usage is needed. Who on our team can create for himself or others, other than Trae? Kevin does at times but he is too inconsistent. Other than that, no one.

for the names listed, but not for the vast, vast, vast majority of rookie PGs who never had nearly the minutes or usage rate, which is why a stat like this doesn't really mean anything.

Again, inflated numbers. and don't get me wrong, it's not a dig against Trae b/c stats all across the NBA today are pretty inflated tbh.

I have changed my view on Trae after seeing him play in the league. Tweet is stupid regardless, you are comparing him with people playing a vastly different game. You are also putting him in the same sentence as Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Isaiah Thomas, and Allen Iverson which is insane, I don't care how many points or assists he is averaging as a rookie.

^you'd care care if he was putting up terrible production. Everyone had a judgment when he struggled in November.

And everyone has already crowned Luka because of Rookie production.

Trae is better than those guys as a rookie outside of Magic. Trae gets to any spot on the court at will, his floor game already elite, he has elite shooting potential, he will a very good playmaker and potential to be the best we have seen. Trae has a chance to be best PG to play the game. His offensive impact will be up there with the best to play the game.

I like Trae, and I think he's gonna be a great player, but can you really say he's having a better rookie year than a guy who averaged 30-10-10 as a rookie?

Let's step away from hyperbole and unnecessary comparisons.

And just appreciate how good this young man has been of late:

Young has adapted his game – which was necessary – and then he always had the potential to be one of the best offensive players in the league in my eyes. That being said, his defense is absolutely terrible and he'll likely have to work harder if he ever wants to reach the truly elite territory. Hopefully we'll see him addressing the issue because he sure is damn fun to watch on offense.
