Temetrius "Ja" Morant

Post#1 » by No-Man » Tue Dec 26, 2017 1:00 pm

Is it Ja Morant or J.A. Morant? in some places it goes by Temetrius, not sure, either way, have seen little of him but he looks fast and athletic, his numbers are freaking awesome for a frosh lead-guard type, 6'3, 33% from 3 on 3 attempts per game but 87.5% from FT with a real good FTr, triple-double alert every game, averaging close to 16-9-9 per 40, defensive numbers are pedestrian and looks like an avg finisher by the numbers, but damn 20 usg% with a 36 ast% and very low turnover numbers.

Really low numbers in terms of unassisted jumpers so I guess not really a guy with a pull-up in his arsenal, but still intriguing profile.

His name is Jamil, but he goes by Ja, not J.A. And 33% in college isn’t good at three. For one, it isn’t the NBA 3 and there aren’t as many games in college than the NBA. He’s also playing against a lot of bad teams. I doubt he’s even considered to be drafted this year, but might be someone to watch in the future.

Well, not gonna drop names, but you better believe he is been considered by NBA teams, you can trust me on that

And he is called Temetrius, maybe it's Jamil Temetrius Morant or Temetrius Jamil Morant though.

I know stat eyeing is a bad way to evaluate players, but it's one of the first things I look at before I decide whether or not to watch film. From looking at his overall stats, here's what I gathered:

Looks like he has a good potential, but maybe not for this year's draft? Seems like he doesn't have much of a mid-range game as most of his shots are around the rim or 3pt shots. His % around the rim is on the lower end of only 58.3%. His 3pt % isn't impressive at only 33%. However his FT% is really good. Indicates that he's a better shooter than the percentage. His stls are extremely low which do give me some red flags of him not knowing how to read passing lanes, or him not using his length properly. Currently only at 0.7stls in his 30mpg. Most college PGs average at least 1spg even if they're poor defenders. His assists look great at 6.7, with only 2.1tos. Means he's definitely a good ball handler and facilitator.

I think he is a NBA prospect, but I'm not sure that he declares this year. Physical frame is small, and you want to see his shooting efficiency go up, especially in the OVC.

Do you think he's worth watching tape on?

Is this a guy who's going to come out of nowhere and wind up a top 7 pick this year?

No

It's possible.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

I think he looks amazing. I think he'll go top 15 at least, possible top 10.

The knock against him will always be the competition.

He's a sophomore this year. I've seen him at least top 15 in most mocks already. I think he definitely comes out this year

This isn’t a good sign that there aren’t enough players at the top so we’re looking for players to go into it. Morant is going to be a top 10 pick because this draft is weak. There are literally no point guards in this draft, it would make no sense for him not to come out.

Was unranked, contributes immediately to #1 Ohio Valley finish (8-8 to 16-2), now lighting college on fire.

Wonder if this is scouting failure in high school or did homeboy get really good in just one year.

His increase in production from his first year in college is notable.

I know I opened the thread when nobody knew about they guy and I still like Morant but he is gonna get drafted like 15-20 spots too high, still a great story and find to get a 2 star guy that has a chance to be a NBA rotation player, but I am out on him as a high level prospect

Yeah. I liked the Schroder comp somebody threw in the general thread. I think he should be picked in the 15-25 range, but this class si shaping so weak he might be picked in the top 10, especially if teams like Orlando miss on Garland.

He'll benefit from being in a pretty light PG class. Outside of Darius Garland it really is a toss up for who should be the next PG taken off the board.

With Garland hurt and likely to return to school
Ja is the top pg in the draft barring some orgs seeing Dort in than role or others having interest in project types like Coby white
To me Ponds is underrated as a mid first option.
