Raptors seem to have a very Spurs like approach to drafting now.

No team has drafted better with late picks though in the last 5 years

Delon Wight
Pascal Siakam
Norm Powell
Fred Van Vleet (undrafted)

Lakers:

Nance
Kuzma
Clarkson
Hart

Yup - not sure Magic and Jeanie get this.

He's a rare wing player I watch for his defense more than his offense. When he gets in that defensive crouch, he's like a gunman in the old westerns daring the offensive player to try something. And he's agile enough to sneak through screens. He just needs to be more consistent on the offensive end and add a little more strength.

I think Doordoor's got him first round. Now's a good time to point out we do have a mock draft forum. It's easy to miss. viewforum.php?f=38

I think Doordoor's got him first round, but you're right - most don't have him. Now's a good time to point out we do have a mock draft forum. It's easy to miss. viewforum.php?f=38

All the players he drafts have really good advanced stats that people before him overlook. Anunoby was an advanced defender, Wright was an advanced finisher, Poeltl and Powell also had good advanced stats. VanVleet did as well and had a crazy amount of steals for someone his size. He either does that or he finds really raw guys that have high end length and athleticism, but they need to be molded. Those guys are the guys like Caboclo and Siakam.

Siakam put up over 30 PER in college. Purtle super efficient/high PER player. Re:Siakam That's pretty excellent even when compared to the top tier prospects He had the stats and it was probably a huge factor in getting drafted. Norm Powell I'm not so sure about stats wise especially for a 4 year player.

I was really high on Powell because he played for UCLA and he was better than people were giving him credit for. A lot of people didn’t even mock him. Anyway, I specifically remember someone pointing out something about him that was extremely effective.

He doesn't have the natural frame nor girth to be a great factor on D though, like palyers that are real pluses and aren't bigs, are basically wings that can actuallybody up big wings on D, hard to see Frazier doing that.
I like his passing more than people do, but hard to seehim been efficient on ball as much as he palys for Tulane.

Bates Diop has the look of a Masai prospect. Hard worker, high PER, blocks, steals, can shoot 3's.

Wed probably be looking for either a big man or a point gaurd. I like Okobo and Alize Johnson right now.

Im assuming the raptors just buy a 2nd rounder in the 40-50 range.

I guess this is a raptors thread who don't pick this year
Maybe they will buy 1 and take Admiral Schofield mid 2nd or trade for 1 early 2nd and take Bruce Brown , but they have no picks

At this point Masai Ujuri deserves his own draft thread, the man is a complete genius at late round picks. His model is always fast, long, high IQ and character picks. Bruno is the only guy that didn't fit that mold, and look what happened. Otherwise, no other GM hits on that many picks in the 20-40 range.

Winners

Siakam
Wright
Powell
Fournier
Faried
Anunoby

Losers

Bruno

Bonzie Colson in the right environment could be a steal, long, high IQ. Kinda like PJ Tucker. Very useful player in todays NBA

extrapolating to 2018's draft I see the following as some targets of this model

Gary Clark (advanced stats +wingspan + steals/blocks)
Keenen Evans (advanced stats + IQ)
Jevon Carter (advanced states + IQ + steals)
Bates Diop (advanced stats + size for position + IQ)
Jontay Porter (size for position + advanced stats + IQ)
