Who would you take #1?

Post#1 » by JoJoEmbiid » Tue Jun 12, 2018 6:00 pm

I feel that there are multiple guys that are worth a look at number one in Bamba, Austin, and Doncic. I know a lot of people love Ayton, but personally I’d take the other 2 over him. Who do you have #1?

It's between Bamba and Ayton for me right now. Leaning Bamba.

Felt like it was Ayton's to lose coming into the year and felt that way all season. I still have him going first. Too much good stuff to pass up and too much potential for correction on the bad things.

Doncic...he would immediately make Phoenix a fringe playoff team. Ayton is likely going to be the pick because the fit is rock solid and the upside defensively is there if he ever realizes it and basically he fits more with their 2-3 year timeline of getting into the post season without pressuring the young core to push the timeline in their development.

The Bamba hype is out of control how do you get better once games stop playing

JJJ or Bamba. but I agree with the above poster about Bamba - be wary of the guy who gets better once the games stop. watched him at Texas and thought was worth about 6th overall. now i'm considering him at 1 - yeah, I feel like I have good reasons, but jkam brings up a solid point.

I'd go J3 1st overall, felt like that most of the year when I started actually watching some games of everybody, going back checking out some tape, reading up on here and articles, etc.

Doncic 2nd.

Bamba or Bagley 3rd.

Ayton 5th.

Easily? Nah... It isn't easily anyone.

Edit: Bamba and JJJ are waaaay too raw to take at number one with production athletes like Ayton and Bagley and an accomplish player in Doncic on the board.

Still firmly in Team Doncic. Then it's Jackson Jr. for me, but he's certainly not a 'sexy pick' for any GM who has to sell it.

Same top 2 here. A few could go 3rd for me. Bamba and MPJ are two I really like.

I have Doncic #1. It seems he mostly gets criticized for being too good already, with the odd assumption that because he's soo good now he won't get better.

Then Ayton #2

Bamba and probably Porter 3-4. Of course I haven't really seen Proter play healthy so there's more uncertainty there.

JJ #5.

He's charming, quick and long. I figured he'd win people over with interviews. Being in Austin I saw a lot of interviews before the season and some good long articles about him and he was really intriguing, but then watching him he is just SO raw offensively and so frail. He needs to put on a lot of weight.

I definitely wouldn't take him in the top few picks.

I think that's my main thing with him and why I think he could easily bust. Not even that he's raw, it's the skinny, long and frail thing. He almost seems destined for a bad freak injury or 3 that really alters his career. Like even if it doesn't end his career, it'll just be early enough in his career a couple times to really halt his progress and thus he'll always remain raw and skinny and eventually will have to be relegated to simply a mid minute role player off the bench or a limited minute starter.

But his ultimate ceiling type potential is off the hook and this isn't guy whose so raw mentally he'll never figure out where to be on a screen, or how to execute a simple proper drop step and he can shoot and will likely get better and has the measures and athleticism to be a monster defender. It's hard not to like him for the long term.

Ayton over Bagley, then a massive drop off to Bamba, Porter Jr and JJJ

I think he has really high upside. I'm not really worried about injury since he is light...not too much weight...not any injury concerns I know of but can he add enough wait to where he isn't just pushed around inside. Offensively he's a ways off.

Ayton and Doncic are ready to contribute immediately, and Jackson is at least good enough to play as a 3D PF/small ball C right now...he can stretch the floor and switch well.

After those three it gets tough for me...because I feel those with the highest floor also have the lower ceilings (Bridges, Carter) and then the other guys could be awesome but have huge risks (Trae, Bagley, Porter, Bamba).
