This seems like a solid comp. I saw Claxton in high school and the potential was obvious but he was also pretty passive and soft. Haven't watched enough tape to know how much that's changed but his freshman to sophomore year leap is encouraging.

If he stays in, which he probably will at this point I think his combine testing numbers took him into the late first probability as a instant defensive option in any rotation instead of early to mid 2nd as long term high end defensive upside.

This dude sprouted out of nowhere. For a near 7 footer he's a great athlete. I guess poorman's JJJ or softer defensive Chandler. Just off short clips of this dude. Didn't follow UGA ball for a min.

Probably early 2nd rounder considering he's too long of a project for 8 or so playoff teams don't have the patience with their pick.

He is a special defender. He might not have JJJ size but he might be a more active defender. It's hard not to see a team take him in the late 1st or move up to take him

I honestly believe if he comes back next szn and has a solid run he can push himself into top-5 category. Ever since his game against Texas, I've been watching as much of this guy as I could. He is really good.

Possibly late lottery if he returns but unlikey see a junior esp one that isn't a 1st option go in the top 5 of any draft.
I think he will stay in and get picked up as high as 19 but more likely 25-35 because although he has a lot of versatile skill as a defender and decent baseline skill offensively he is only 220 at 6'11" and definitely could benefit from 1/2 a year in the g-league and the weight room.

Sophomore Claxton is similar raw prospect that had similar impact to freshman Jonathan Issac, that one year gap could be something between lottery and second round.

Claxton doesn't have Isaac's toolset

There's a rumor floating out there that he has a promise - most likely Atlanta at 17.

Makes sense given he shutdown workouts for non-lottery teams - suggests somewhere in that 15-20 range. I wonder whether ATL take him if they take a big at 8 or 10 though - could easily see them taking Hayes, for instance.

he'd make a lot of sense for Atl

man, they're in a really good position in this draft, but I can see them trading #8 and #10 possibly up for Cam. maybe with the Lakers if the Lakers can't move that pick in the AD trade.

Called it back in February.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

if so banking on Claxton at 17 ?
That makes some sense I guess, but as impressive as he was at the combine on top of his season accolades I think Claxton could be gone by 9th.

8 - Cam
10 - Little
17 - Claxton would be my ideal draft.

Hawks love their bigmen having the ability to hit the corner 3 with some consistency. Hayes doesn't seem to have much range outside the paint. Claxton also moves laterally and has some quick twitchiness about him.

I will admit I didn't watch either - more Hayes than Claxton - play much but Hayes and Claxton are almost identical in everything. Why is one projected to be a lottery player and the other a late first round pick in every mock draft?

hmm, Clax and Hayes are not really all that similar, Clax can stretch and shoot somewhat, while Hayes is a more traditional big with a bigger/stronger body.

They have similar measurements, but they are different athletes, much different body types and their games are nothing alike
