any idea where he's looking to play overseas?

No clue at all, that is just an assumption by me. He had his meniscus worked on in September and was supposed to be out 3 months max. Started posting vids of him playing pickup ball in December and saying he was healthy. But he wasn't showing up to IMG. Some crazy rumors around that started, then after a week or so of denying he left IMG, he officially announced he left IMG. And the last I have heard, he has no plans on returning to school this year.

Ive heard some chatter for awhile now that him at Duke was up in the air. I know some people aren't too confident he will ever play a game at Duke. Now to me I assumed that meant over seas. But he is barely age eligible for the 2020 draft and with him not attending high school this past year, Im sure if they challenge the NBA on it, he could pass the "1 year removed from high school" rule as well.

Then add in Duke basically almost stopped recruiting Kuminga for a little bit, then once all this happened, the entire Duke coaching staff and team show up to his game and it looks like Duke is all the way back on the Kuminga train. I honestly would be shocked if he ends up on Duke's campus.

that's pretty interesting. i was wondering why i hadn't seen much from him this year which the other kids in the class were indeed losing their collective minds on the court. If he did declare this year i would wonder how high he is being viewed by the league. Would teams be more leery and or less leery since most of the kids in this class haven't shown enough to standout. would he just fall into that category as well and the risk doesn't matter or do you pump the breaks at some point as a franchise? I'd like to see him at Duke next year as i think it helps shine light on him and with those collegiate ballers on the roster he could/should shine as the piece that brings it all together. Hopefully if he does go overseas he goes somewhere that his full game can be showcased. definitely keep us posted though if you'd be so kind good sir.

Ya really curious if he gets the Thon Maker treatment where he still goes high in the draft. Or does he get the Simons treatment and go late in the 1st and barely go in the 1st round.

Im a massive fan of his, I love the skillset in his body. Hell even with him being a bad jump shooter, Im not all that worried because the form on his jumper is pretty damn solid, I think he has the potential to be a solid jump shooter. But ya Im just so curious to see how his athleticism translates. Because if it does translate, I think he can be a pretty special player. Or does it not translate and he becomes a taller Kyle Anderson? But with how poorly this class has looked so far, I wouldnt be shocked if he does stick his nose into the draft and finds out he has a pretty early grade. Hell out of all the people in this draft, he would be #1 on my board if I was GS, even with the athleticism concerns.

one hundred percent place him atop your board if you're G-State. He'd fit really well there as a really good glue piece especially with Klay and Steph coming back next year. I know Clyde would be all about that.

speaking of Maker, Makur is a late first on a few mocks that have him declaring this year. Strike while the iron is hot for sure. A hot iron in this case is a wide open flawed draft. Good time for teams to roll the dice especially with what's to follow.

Yup to me this is the draft to take a gamble on prospects. Again I have my concerns about Jalen, but if Im sitting on the 3rd pick and Im looking at LaMelo Ball, Cole Anthony, Halliburton and Jalen Johnson. Ya if Im a team that doesn't have to worry about putting butts in the seats (this is where I can see the LaMelo argument), ya give me Jalen (especially if Im GS and he seems like the ideal fit to take over for Draymond). And Im no big fan of Makur, but ya if Im sitting in the late teens and say guys like Josh Green is gone. Ya let me take a swing on Makur.

Ive said this a lot, but I think this draft is 2013 all over again. I wouldnt be shocked if the best player in this draft comes outside of the lotto. Im all for taking a big risk and swinging for the fences with this draft.

yeah i saw that when you said it before and it got me to thinking. There's a lot of merit to that logic, likely a solid environment to develop in, less pressure to produce, probably someone a little raw but willing to work that might be an element away from being very good in the right situation. i can see it happening as well. This class is all over the place RN and could be a good role player draft depending on landing spots. Outside of Wiseman, Antman, Melo, and possibly Cole, I can't think of anyone wearing the weight to "produce" right away.

Yup at the moment if you had to bet on the top 5 vs the field on where the best player from this draft comes from. Ill probably take the field. I mean hell, what if a team does take LaMelo at #1 (it would be surprising but not shocking). I think this draft could almost be a mirror image of the 2013 draft. A guy many didn't believe should've even been a top 5 pick goes #1. Wouldnt be shocked if we only see 1 all star player in the top 10. Just not a good draft in my opinion to have a top 5-10 pick. Not sure there is a huge difference between 3 and 15.

I've got it ranked similar to 2014. An elite big, and elite wing, several intriguing point guards, lots of raw high upside guys. A slew of role playing specialists. There's no doubt it's not as strong as all time classes like 2017 and 2018 and apparently that makes people think it's weak like 2013 but that's going too far. Maybe like 2016, it'll take a few years for some guys to develop and we'll look back on it as an above average very solid draft.

most people have a problem with the top-5 or 8, the rest of the draft is decent enough

Yep, not comfortable with anyone in the top 5. Ball will go high because he will sell tickets and get you eyeballs. Wiseman at least looks the part of a high lottery pick. Anthony Edwards will bring the consensus with him. All of these you can justify taking top 3 and them starting slowly.

I think that will be the top 3 unless someone pops because of exactly what was mentioned above: GMs want to keep their job and keeping your job until you can get to the 2021 draft might be critical for some GMs at the top.

Other than the Warriors GM, what lottery team's GM can afford bad optics by taking a player considered a reach by the consensus?

To that specific point in a regular draft probably the Pels. In this particular draft i don't think there's a consensus outside of the 3 you mentioned above so there will be gambles to be taken for sure. There is room for it especially considering it's heavy at a position those lotto teams either have filled or the potential option isn't necessarily an immediate upgrade from what's currently in place.

I think Mcdaniels contends for top 3 but falls somewhere in the top 5-6. His weight is a concern, but he seems strong enough at his current size. Not many other transparent warts to his game. You figure once that size and strength increases, he's one of your higher upside prospects.

In the running for top boom or bust prospect this year. Defense and energy might be the saving grace.

McDaniels looks to me like a guy who wants to be great(maybe be rich would be a better term). He obviously puts in work on his skills, but he's not even as polished as Harrison Barnes was at that age or as polished as Hachimura was last year. He's not a stopper like Hunter, and he's not as "toolsy" as Reddish.

So he looks NBA caliber, but not a standout at anything in particular.

I need to see more offensive skill before I'd want to put the ball in his hands and have him "create" on offense. Obviously he dosent project as an elite defender (imo).

So not a go to guy on offense, and not a "stopper" on defense. But still NBA caliber. Kent Bazemore Esq. Imo.

I see a high floor (very small Gleague/Euroleague bust potential) and a best case scenario of a more energetic Harrison Barnes.

But what does he do that's more special than Harrison Barnes/Bogdon Bogdonvich/Buddy Heild/Corey Joesph?

What does he do that makes him look better than Dillon Brooks/Jae Crowder/Kyle Anderson?

What does he do that makes him look deserving for minutes against Cam Johnson/Oubre/Mikal Bridges/Tyler Johnson?

Those are just random teams. He could get minutes immediately on awful teams, but he wouldn't move the needle much more than a Poole/Paschall/Smialch/Alec Burks group.

A best case scenario of a more energetic Harrison Barnes would be awesome. And if can become 100% of what HB is, well HB was a good value at #7 in what was viewed as a really good draft.

Anyone know anything about Aleksej Pokuševski? Watched some highlights and, while he is physically bambi, he does have some really interesting tools. Clearly has good, natural court vision for a big. Range to 3PT line but a inconsistent jumper in terms of form. Excellent handles for a big. Shows good shotblocking but against small competition.

He seems like the next late R1 flyer in the Anžejs Pasečņiks mold, but I actually think his passing and shotblocking are enough to elevate him a bit. Hard to tell vs the competition. This is the best write up I found: https://www.thestepien.com/2019/05/06/2020-international-guide-curious-case-aleksej-pokusevski/

Sorry need a place for a quick rant because the vast majority of Duke fans are incapable of having an actual critical discussion on basketball. Its amazing to me the difference in level of basketball discussion here vs just Duke fans. Ive got Duke fans saying all Hurt needs to do is add a little strength and he can become a damn good NBA player. Got people comparing him to Danilo Gallinari for gods sake.

Then just the complete lack of willingness to look at any kind of non raw stat and feelings is so frustrating. Bunch of Duke fans are saying things along the lines of, "this team is really missing Wendell Moore, he brings so much to this offense and defense." Then I come back with, actually when you look at it a little deeper, he really hasn't helped this team all that much. He has the lowest PER, lowest WS/40, 2nd lowest BPM on the team, he has by far the worst offensive rating and worst net rating on the team. When you look at the Synergy stats, it shows he is god awful in just about every area on offense and he isn't even a top 3 perimeter defender on the team. The response I get to that is, I get heavily downvoted and basketball isn't played on a spreadsheet. Moore brings grit and toughness and he can create his own shot. Then I get, "Moore is going to get drafted he has a 7' wingspan, OG got drafted because of his wingspan and Moore can facilitate off the dribble, something OG couldn't do."

I want to rip my freaking hair out! Some Duke fans think Duke has 5 1st rounders in this draft. They think Vernon should be a top 10 pick, Stanley will get drafted because his athleticism, Hurt because he is the "ideal stretch 4", Moore because his wingspan. I just can't do it anymore haha.

In the stuff I’ve seen, he reminded me of Davis Bertans but with greater ball skills and athleticism (granted Bertans was very athletic in Europe prior to his ACL injuries) . Pokusevski’s defensive instincts aren’t bad either and he can move on the perimeter.

Anytime you have a fluid 7-footer who can shoot off movement, pass and handle the ball, there’s potentially something there. Obviously he needs to gain a ton of weight first before even thinking about coming over to the NBA, but definitely an intriguing stash prospect in the late 1st/early 2nd

Haha I mean god damn, I always viewed myself as a massive Duke homer. But Hurt is comparable to Galo, those are some dark Duke blue shaded glasses to think that. Some other nuggets,

"I could see Hurt as a Nikola Jokic"
"Hurt is better than Kyle Kuzma"

And again god forbid you use stats that aren't PPG/Rebounds. Im losing it haha.

Poku is nothing like Bertans, he is more like Kirilenko with like a 10% of the athleticism and physicality

He has a great all around game though
