Rui Hachimura

Post#1 » by substancej » Thu May 16, 2019 2:05 pm

What's the deal with the hype surrounding him? He seems like a Cam Reddish with less of a skill set. Natural athlete but not much more. Will the combine end up hurting or helping his hype?

I'm buying properties on the Rui Hachimura island.
Excellent athletism, good handle for his size and the improvements he did after after season screams hard work. Also seems like a good kid willing to learn.
If I were a team like Spurs or Nets with good development structure, I'll try my best to get him. With the right environment, he could be a Siakam-level player.

I think he has way more perimeter skills than being given credit for. The Gonzaga roster just didn’t set up in a way that it was needed at all.

He has a monster frame for the 3 (yes he may play “small ball 4”) and will be good enough of a player to become really marketable as a Japanese player

Everyone gives a pass to the 3 year player deandre hunter but discounts most of Rui

Is more about Hunter being a smarter, more versatile defender, better passer and a better 3 pointer shooter than anything else.

He reminds me a lot as a player Glenn Robinson, big strong 3 with great scoring arsenal and mid range shot ..

Not sure what to think of him. In terms of profile, I'm not a big fan yet. But I value his year-to-year improvement and if he can, for instance, continue to extend his range and improve his playmaking then he could be a really valuable player. So he has still some major steps to take but a player that has improved like he had – and dominated his competition with his current style – has certainly a greater chance to take them than those who have not done so.

He's tough to project. I don't love him, but he has some upside. Best case might be Marcus Morris, worst case Damion James. Could be worth a late lotto pick in this weak draft.

Doubt most of you all have watched much of him or gonzaga, but his game mirrors exactly likeKawhi Leonard, little to flash, but highly effective/efficient in the half court with quick and high release pull up jumper anywhere inside the 3, strong finisher at the basket with both hands, and can drive with either hands. Although he gots knocked for his defense, has potential to be good as he has all the tools and will improve with more skilled positional coaching. On top of that, comes from a program with pedigree that puts focus on 2-3 year player development and fundamentals.

I really liked him coming in to the season, cooled off as the season progressed, think I might be a little too low on him now.

On one hand, I don't think his actualy skill-set matches his production, from what I've seen his handle/OTD scoring is kinda basic and he's going to end up playing a pretty cerebral offensive game at the next level, plus the defense has been criticized, and I think physically he's a 4.

On the other hand, I kinda buy in to the late development surge/continual improvement argument, and I do believe he will successfully up his volume from 3. I do believe there's potential for a very good player, but you just have to believe that multiple areas of improvement will make considerable strides in spite of his age.

I think someone has made him a lotto promise, which is why he is not at the combine... As the Spurs pick 19, I am not concerned (and if it's the Spurs who end up with him, I will try to trust our FO).

Dude will be a steal. Way better prospect and player than guys projected ahead of him like Hunter Clarke and Culver.

With him not participating in the combine and this news, looks like he's a lottery lock.

I’d sign off on Rui as a pups fan. I don’t think he’ll be a star but this draft is so weak he will eventually be one of the top guys out of this class when we look back with our 20/20 goggles.

We’ll see, I sign off on him as the pick too but there’s no way this class is worse than 2014 and he may actually make an all star team; as long as the fan vote matters he’ll have Japan behind him

Rumor is Timberwolves are interested, but they just got a new GM so I’m not sure how real that is.

Well if starts playing defense and discovers the 3 ball he has the physical tools to be worth a 10-14 range pick
