His upside is like Montrezl Harrell with shotblocking and defense, if he shows some potential in his jumpshot this and next season, then he can become even better than ~top5 pick. Playing in a rotation of elite european club is sooo impressive in age of 17, and it seems Garuba has a shot to do that this season, he's basically in high school age playing professionally, and there are no concerns regarding his real age.

i know it is bias but im will be really surprised if he doesnt end up in the nba. Real Madrid have the best academy(only in basketball, soccer not so much) of Europe BY FAR, good scouting also, and have one of the best coach in the world in laso who is defense-first coach and can teach him a lot.

The fans of real are pretty excited about him like doncic's levels of hype

That would be a major example of a strawman argument. Obviously if he's playing for Real Madrid at 17 he'll be an NBA player.

Before this he's absolutely dominated all the junior tournaments as well. He's a stud.

First 3 games on Euroleague
28 pts 15 boards 12/15 FG
He looks very great on defense too.

Getting 20 minutes per game is impresive in a stacked team as real madrid have.

Any thoughts on how he and Amar Sylla compare to each other?

Well they played together and i like Sylla but Garuba is on another level.Only 17 and he's already plus defender , great instincts, motor, length.Runs the floor hard every time and is great finisher inside. Can also put the ball on the floor and run/playmaker ala Draymond,we seen a few glimpses already with senior team.People will overanalyze him and question his height but really he has almost Doncic like producition true the youth setup and he plays hard , he plays smart , and if his already part of the rotation at 17 , next year he may well finish as top 3 draft pick if he keeps developing on current pace.

Not many players have his physically tools , huge motor , and also play smart(at 17!!!).Dont overthink it , he will be great.

Garuba doesn't look 6'9". He looks 6'7", maybe 6'8" at most.

NBA measured Arnoldas Kulboka as ''6'10''. We had discussion in the past, and you said that Euroleague is legit taller than NBA nowadays, and I thought that was a bit crazy, but right now I thinks actually probably true. Just visually looking, guys like Nicollo Melli or Bjelica actually look taller than what they looked in Europe.
My point, Garuba looks tall by NBA standards.

Yeah, 6-7 in Europe has historically = 6-9 in NCAA / NBA, or maybe now with the new rules 6-8 in NBA (although tons of NBA players with these "new measurement rules" are still listed taller than their draft measurements)......

But I don't think it's accurate to say that Garuba is 6-9. Just from looking at him, he really does not look that tall. At least not as of yet. He looks like he might be around 6-8 in shoes.

I would assume he's 6'8 by new NBA standards maybe 6'9.
Here he is next to Alperen Sengün, Santi Aldama and Nikolaos Rogkavopoulos are listed at 6'9, 6'11 and 6'8 respectively. He is considerably taller than Rogkavopoulos, same height as Sengün and his shoulders are at the same height as Aldama. So even if the other players' height is exaggerated an inch or two, he should comfortably be at least 6'8, maybe 6'9

From watching EuroLeague games, Garuba looks very much Othello Hunter size (6" 8½" in shoes) to me. He also reminds me very much of Hunter in his game and how he plays.

From what I've seen, Garuba is tiers ahead.

That entire video is of him dunking putbacks. Very Montrezl Harrell like. Video doesn't provide a full picture of his capabilities though. How is his handle? If he can dribble the ball like Siakam then he will be a star.

He's nothing similar at all to Siakam in play style. For another EuroLeague player, he reminds me of Othello Hunter. So more similar to this style of player:

Blocked Derrick Williams twice on same possession. Man this kid is gonna be good, teams are thinking of trading down from this draft, just trade this years pick for future picks and hope this guy drops to you by next year.

Is that really that impressive? Derrick Williams might be the softest big man in EuroLeague.

Anyway, Garuba is a nice defensive big man and a very good rebounder. But he doesn't offer much of anything in terms of skill or offense, other than dunks and put backs.
