[2020 Draft] Pick 1 sleeper.

Post#1 » by getrichordie » Wed May 27, 2020 3:07 am

Wanted to try something new.

Pick 1 (and only 1) sleeper that has not, or barely, been mentioned as a potential draftee in this year's draft that you think could actually get drafted.

Go.

He's such an odd player to watch. His DR% (25.5) is insane for a 6'7 dude. He's also a 22.5 y.o. sophomore, which is strange.

According to basketballsocietyonline...

Lamine Diane is posting some obscene averages already through his first 10 games of the season:

27.7 PTS, 9.9 REB, 2.6 AST, 2.0 STL, 2.1 BLK, 49.2 FG%, 33.3 3PT%, 66.1 FT%

Found this too:

In 2014, while playing for “Giving Back,” he scored 25 straight points in five minutes against a team of men 10 years his senior at the same arena where his father once starred.

---

Cal State Northridge assistant Marvin Adams — an acquaintance of Sy’s who bonded with Diane over multiple workouts during his first trip to the U.S. — sold Diane on becoming the face of a Matadors program that has only sent one player (guard Paul McCracken, 1970-72) to the NBA.

On the first play of his first practice, Diane drove baseline, leapt over a big man and hammered home a reverse dunk. Adams and head coach Reggie Theus turned to each other and said, “Holy sh—.”

He moved to America at 15 from Senegal. Dad was a legend in his country. Insanely athletic player. Needs to polish up his shooting but he's as athletic as I've seen for this class at SG outside of Edwards and to some degree, even with Edwards. He looks like a Siakam at SG. Not the same player but just look and feel. A year in the G-league should do him wonders.

Higher rated HS prospect than Zhaire Smith and Nic Claxton

The kid from Utah State who actually has ball skills in addition to shooting lights out.

I'm also optimistic about Karim Mane.

Other than steals hes a turnstile on defense which kills early bs mock stock and it needs to be changed but Mason Jones has 1st round sleeper written all over him and is one of the most complete scorers in the draft.
Also think Quickly is a legit late lottery sleeper even with so many other options being considered better. He could easily be ranked ahead of Mannion, Lewis etc. Has exceptional length to defend 2 positions his shooting was pushing tier 1 this season etc so drafting him to play off ball is a high floor choice but also has upside as a pg.

Bane is in my Top-25. Love him.

I tried to go with a deeper sleeper.

that's fair, Bane might not be DEEP sleeper

i'll go with Scrubb and Diakite, if I had to go even deeper i'd also toss in Saben Lee and Anthony Lamb

Interesting. Super deep sleeper pick. He hasn't showed up on any boards I've seen.

I watched some highlights. Think I even posted about him in 'potential sleepers' thread. What do you like about him?

For all the talk about Bane's defense, he's pretty bad on that end. I like his offense, but what's his role on defense? I feel like you'd have to find a way to hide him as a back-up point.

Hard to see him sticking when he does stuff like this:

He can get beat by quicker players some, but I think he is a pretty stellar team defender overall. His burst, handle and length criticisms are \ valid (although he has a reported 8'4" standing reach, which if true is more than sufficient and arguably more important than WS), but he is so damn strong, smart with a huge motor that I think defending 2/3 is not going to be a problem for him. He is sometimes overzealous trying to occupy multiple passing lanes which leads to some break downs in that video, but for every bad defensive possession there are countless positive ones.

Dude literally tries to defend the entire team.

Offensively, he is even better as a lethal movement shooter who was also in the 93rd percentile for pull-up 3's in the halfcourt. Underrated PnR passer as well.

Also, fun remote film room that really shows how high his BBIQ truly is.

The question on Jones is he's an obviously skilled and talented hooper but does the Jordan Crawford, Zo Trier player still hold great value in the modern NBA?

Do you see Quickley as a PG short or long term?

A few cherry-picked possessions, in two of which he actually had pretty solid contests and the majority of the rest involve confusion about rotations, is supposed to show what exactly? You can do a video that is worse for most prospects whose value comes mostly from offense – heck, you could make a worse one for Bane probably. Not arguing about Bane's defensive ability but that video shouldn't inform anybody's view substantially or be used as evidence that he's not going to cut it defensively.

Bro, you gotta use the spoiler function when you post a ton of tweets.

I mean his interior rotations are good and he’s a smart off-ball defensive player, but he’s going to get exposed on perimeter and in space. He’s pretty weak there, tbh. Reminds me of Ramsey a bit. Ramsey’s interior rotations are good, even though he falls asleep on his man off-ball at times.

Bane adds value on offense. Defense is going to be an issue for him, IMO.
