I’ll check back in two years to see if he can actually move

You realize that's Rudy Gobert he's playing against, right? How much more agile than Gobert does someone who's 7'2 with a 7'8+ wingspan need to be?

OK, just read somewhere that Boston "should" draft him and wait a few years etc.. My question is, can he actually be drafted this year? Now he would make a perfect draft and stash prospect in RD 2 for anyone..

He would go in the lottery if eligible this year

Regardless he is in the 2023 NBA draft class with the new rules

Wembanyama's first game for the French National Academy, called INSEP (group the best player from 15-17yrs old who play in 3rd division vs real men). Victor had the authorization to play with them and as well with Nanterre (both with youth league and 1st division).
In the history INSEP was 4-251 before this game, but that's how these big prospect can face men bball while they're teenagers (Parker, Diaw, Pietrus, Turiaf, Moiso, Fournier, ... all of them went there).

He destroyed everything, and he's 16yrs old ! Some def skills you can not learn, you just have them : that's him ! Def need muscles but roadtoVictor is here !!!

his instincts are just amazing ! And the French bbal system knows that they have a diamond that needs to be polished (shadowing by Gobert probably) ! I cant imagine in 3 yrs what he can be ! Pray for his knees :meditate: :meditate:

He’s def not one of those guys that is listed at 7’3 but is really 7’0.5 or something. He’s a true giant, already taller than giant Gobert at 16.

I am inclined to agree. This kid looks, potentially, quite special.

Players with that kind of height and size always have an issue with stamina, Gobert too get gassed out when he logs big minutes .

Not really, he had plenty of misses over the years , both him and his pal from draftexpress. Over hyping some players that did nothing in the league while overlooking some others who did well.

mike schmitz is an espn creation.. But this kid looks like a future #1 pick.. he clearly just knows how to play. Havent seen another player that looked so close to a young KAJ in highlights at least.

His incredible backspin for his size and the extra half second he holds his follow through makes his shot look a ton like Durants. Not saying he will be anything like him, just a quirky observation.

I think we have enough time to think of a nickname :)

I am not very high on him. Many top French prospects recently (Ntilikina, Hoard, Pons) haven’t justified the hype. On the other hand bigs have a much higher success rate, so maybe he can become a starter. I don’t get the Porzingis comparisons though, KP is ten times more mobile.

Man, I was so high on Thon Maker. Haven't been following his career very closely, but it doesn't seem like he's put it together yet. Bummer.

Victor looks great. Concerns over his frame are overblown -- this kid was in middle school a year ago. He's got a lot of years ahead of him to get used to his body and develop strength, which can't be said for prospects who shoot up ten inches in a late high school growth spurt. Honestly, his fluidity of movement and skill level are nothing short of incredible given his size. Most legit seven footers are lead-footed. There's a reason they call prospects like this "unicorns".

They're still very young! Also they were good prospects, but Wembanyama is the best prospect that we have ever known in France. We're talking about a 7'3" teenager able to shoot 3 pts and to block any one. 22 points, 10 rebounds, 7 blocks for his first pro game, sorry if we are high on him :) Also this kid is really smart with a very good background.
