I voted Toppin.
The only reason Toppin shouldn't be the consensus (imo) is K.Loves contract.
And I don't think that should hinder the future anymore than it already does.
Whoever the pick they will stink next season. So bring Toppin off the bench. Love will miss 20+ games no matter what.
You can play lineups with Toppin and Love you'll lose either way.
Toppin can help elevate Sexton and Garland with his floor spacing. +You give Sexton and Garland another year before you canablize those picks.
Vassell and Okoro are interesting here, but I'm making a talent play.

Okongwu or Vassell best floors and most likely top targets for a team void of solid defenders that can generate offense as well.
But there is a scenario if in fact the top 4 went as voted for where CLe sees Hayes or Okoro as the best long term values instead.
Little chance they take a 22 yr old at 5 maybe in a trade down.

i went with either Onyeka or Vassell, Cleveland needs some defense, and Toppin is just not a good fit w/ Love and Drummond in the front court

Okongwu does make sense as well but I really don't think they need anymore guards or wings right now and need to focus on developing the ones they already have without creating a big cluster taking one every year.
I think they are good right now with developing Garland, Sexton, KPJ and Osman. Not sure how they feel about Exum but maybe sign a vet backup PG if necessary to help with some development there as well.

i'd trade Sexton while his stock is relatively high, I'm a believer in Garland, KPJ is also a keeper, no one else really is, I wouldn't mind building around Garland-KPJ-Vassell/Okongwu moving forward

Cleveland is another curious one. They have a pretty full roster as it is especially if they’re planning on re-signing Andre Drummond, Tristan Thompson and Ante Zizic. They have a bunch of guards who need minutes already with Garland, Sexton, Porter Jr and Exum. Then they have SFs they’ll need to play in Osman, a healthy Dylan Windler and they seem to really like McKinney. Then on top of that they have a bunch of bigs. Unless they don’t re-sign Drummond, Thompson and Zizic they’ll still have to play Love, Nance and they really like Dean Wade. So I have no idea what they’ll do or where they’ll find minutes for the player they draft unless they make moves and let guys go.
With that said they clearly don’t have a point guard that is ready right now or one that can defend. Haliburton makes sense from a defensive standpoint, but the Cavs just also really need a point guard who can penetrate. Or maybe they commit to Sexton being the point guard and getting a shooting guard who can fit next to him although it isn’t a long-term solution because of the lack of penetration.
Cole Anthony and Killian Hayes are probably also the answer here.
Without re-signing the bigs Okongwu makes the most sense.

I think I would just take Okongwu and let Drummond walk after next year or try to deal him at the deadline. Hes gonna put up big numbers but hes ultimately fools gold especially for the money he wants.

It's obviously Toppin and they are going to pick him unless Chicago doesn't take Deni

This makes sense since the Cavs clearly want to still compete even though they’re rebuilding, but where does he get minutes? Since he’s older he’s going to need to get minutes right away.

By the way I don’t understand why people love Vassell over Nesmith. Nesmith is younger and his game is more diverse. Vassell might be a little bigger and a better defender, but he’s a very safe pick. He’s a 3&D player, but Nesmith is a scorer with huge offensive upside. The way he moves off screens and uses advanced shooting moves makes a big difference at the next level.

For those who think CLE will value a paint ltd 1 way 22 yr old at 5th overall dream on.
He cant defend the perimeter either.
There is no way cle should be trying to win at all.
Getting dre for scraps and being stuck with kloves contract doesn't equate to much in the win now column other than useful tools to establish your players in development stages of a long rebuild.
There are a number of prospects with a more complete skillset at 22 that i would trade down for.
Toppin is probably fools gold and the TRobb special unless somebody gives him Dayton usage and plays him against scrub defenses.

I think they literally wouldn't trade him fir the 1st overall pick in this draft at this point.
The progressive nature of his skill is alarming and rare.
If they trade him it will only be after they drafted a better player at the guard spot that couldn't coexist ,and so far Garland isn't that at all.even though he cant coexist...
I get the thought of selling high , myself believe more in his continue rise and think this would be selling low.

Cavs fans are literally telling everyone the Cavs can't draft Toppin. They already have Love and another kid they really like in Wade that already play the same exact position. There are no minutes for Toppin. This team desperately needs defense and possibly a 2nd ballhandler from the forward position. If they dont deal the pick I think we can narrow it down to Okoro, Vassell, Deni. or Okongwu in this spot.

A bigger offensive initiator is what Cleveland needs. But since Avdija is off the board I think they'll draft for defense and take either Okoro or Okongwu.

I think Toppin is by far the least likely. He wouldn't get many minutes in our frontcourt and is a terrible long-term fit with Sexton and Garland.
Everything I've read about this team indicates we love Okoro. Cavs shooting coaches are excellent and have done a terrific job with basically all prospects in recent memory developing a shot. Besides shooting Okoro does everything we need - ball handling, defense, toughness, off ball movement, defensive versatility etc.
I prefer Vassell but I dont think our GM/coaches will.
My guess would be Okoro > Vassell > Williams > Okongwu of the options presented. I cant see us considering Hayes or Haliburton or Toppin.

I agree with some of what youre saying but there is next to no chance any org values Patrick Williams as a top 5 pick.
I like the idea of swinging for the fences on Okoro and trusting the shooting coaches, but Okongwu is a higher iq prospect imo and I would trust our shooting coaches with him even more.

i have no idea what Altman's thought process will be but looking at this roster logically there has to be some focus on the defensive side, naturally that means Onyeka, Vassell or Okoro -- whichever of these they have highest on their board

right I think there are very few scenarios where somebody else is higher on their bb except for the chance Hayes is as the long term solution at the pg position at 5 unless of course Wiseman slid to 5 which is highly unlikely barring some medical bad news or some strange overvaluing of more proven prospects by teams 1-4
