Now that it is all said an done, who will be the steal of the 2020 draft?

I was going to say Jalen Smith and Aaron Nesmith, but since both guys ended up going lottery, they don't really qualify as being steals anymore.

Saddiq Bey is going to be good

But now looking at the actual draft board, one name that jumps out at me is Daniel Oturu.

It is not uncommon to see a center high in the 2nd round become a draft steal like Marc Gasol, DeAndre Jordan, Whiteside, Mitchell Robinson, Nikola Jokic, etc.

Oturu is big and very skilled, that I can see becoming a rebounding center who can hit corner 3s consistently. I think Oturu will be very good and have a career arch similar to Carlos Boozer.

I also like Payton Pritchard. The guy has alot of dog in him and I see some Herro in him as well.

Jaden McDaniels landed in a spot where he could be viewed as an absolute steal a couple years down the road.

So almost everyone seems to be in agreement that it's ‘the guy that my team drafted’. Interesting.

Compared to where I had them, I'd say:

1st round
– Tyrese Haliburton
– Killian Hayes
– Cole Anthony
– (RJ Hampton)

2nd round/UDFA
– Paul Reed
– Mason Jones
– (Tyrell Terry)

I think there is a good chance that one out of Bey/Pokusevski/Achiuwa will become an all-Star, so maybe one of them. I als thought that Stanley, Maxey, Bane and McDaniels would be drafted (much) higher, so those are other candidates for me. I think Mannion could also become a solid role player some day, but for that to be enough to be considered steal of the draft, this class would have to turn out really ****.

Maybe unrelated, but could someone tell me why there was such a huge difference in the evaluation of Hayes and Maledon? I don’t know whether Hayes was overrated or Maledon was underrated, but for me they seem to be about equal athletically and Maledon seems to be a better 3-point shooter.

lol, exactly what I've been saying, they're essentially the same prospect to me tbh, never understood why people had Hayes in the top10 but not Maledon and vice versa.

I think Theo Maledon is shy. A true silent killer on the court, but a shy kid off the court. And within a 8 months zoom/skype pre-draft process, that was really bad for him. Other point, people expected huge statistics like TP9 had 19 years ago for his second pro year. But Maledon played in a Euroleague team after being injuried, not in a Pro A team like TP9 used, or a weak Eurocup team like Hayes. And unfortunately, like NBA GMs didn't see that Doncic was first pick without any discussion possible 2 years ago, this year NBA GMs don't see the difference between Euroleague and Eurocup.

Based on highlights, Hayes just seems so slow, and not Doncic/Bodiroga slow, but just slow. I know some people love him, but I dont see it.

From what I can tell Hayes is neither an elite athlete nor an elite shooter. How many guys like that are at least solid starters in the league (which is probably what you are looking for with a 7th pick)?

Brogdon, Russell (who he was compared to the most), Dinwiddie, and Derrick White are some easy ones. Not many players are good three-point shooters at 18-19, and it's hard to find many 87% free throw shooters who don't also end up becoming good three-point shooters.

I will guarantee you he is not. Shaq was really good in the post and he was able to run like a wing. Azubuike will never be a good post player, he'll never be a good passer and he'll never be quick. That I can guarantee.
