Ibou Badji - This Year's International Man of Mystery?

I know that most people have not seen much on this guy, and it is difficult to find tape on him considering he plays limited minutes for Barca now and was in LEB Silver prior. Here is some of my profile (I provide a huge compilation of blocks which you might find intriguing):
In Part 3 of "Circling the Globe", I profile Ibou Dianko Badji. Badji is the quintessential 'draft and stash' player with enormous upside stemming from his gargantuan physical profile, coupled with an underrated developing skillset. While Fran Frascilla's patented "two years away from being two years away" billing is particularly apt in this case, Badji has only been playing basketball for the last four to five years (since 2016), so his current pace of development portends a bright future if he puts in the work. While Badji's core competencies as a prospect can be summarized in about a paragraph, this report will dig deep into his development process, providing you with a window into his improvements over the course of this season and ultimately pro basketball's vision for where he might be down the road.
On the qualitative side, some have called into question Badji's love for the game, considering the fact that he only started playing in 2016 at the behest of his dad (who played), after initially wanting to continue with soccer (LINK). However, the pace of his development has been rather remarkable considering this fact, and the progress he has made in the last year suggests that he is working hard on his game. Importantly, while he spent a lot of time ball watching on defense in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, his defensive activity level has improved considerably this season. On Barca's B team, he incrementally grew with each game, and this culminated in him now playing with Barcelona in Euroleague, as well as with Senegal in the Afrobasket Qualifiers. While he still has a long way to go to receive minutes at the highest level, considering how new Badji is to the game, I would not place too much stock into these concerns.

he's gigantic and is a stupid athlete for someone his size, but not sure he's much more than a run and jump guy at this point, haven't seen any of the baseline or peripheral skills to really pinpoint what he can be in the NBA.
but I think just based on raw athletic profile he'll be worth a shot at some point as a swing for the fences type of pick for a team that can slow cook him for a few years.

Clyde - you are spot on. He is probably the least ready NBA prospect I have ever looked at. But, he has been playing four years and the size and speed profile for someone with his length (second only to Tacko if he plays in the league) means he has crazy upside. I think someone has to take a shot on him early 2nd round and it would be a very high upside pick. He needs about 2-3 years with Barca's Euroleague team, which he recently just became part of. He is a bit clumsy, but I think he is still adjusting to his body.

I think he has more upside on defense than wiseman. I feel like he’s probably a bigger bismack biyombo.

Take a flier in the 2nd due to his gifts... but his IQ/Awareness, Competitiveness, hands, Skill set, and communication are really poor at this stage.

Bump
Curious if there's any new insights/opinions on Badji and his draft stock?

I've been assuming he'll withdraw (the withdrawal deadline is the 19th...), because with his physical gifts, he should make it into the first round in a couple of years.

Maybe.
But Isaiah Jackson is projected as a top 20 pick, but how is he a better pick than Badji?
Similar players but badji is 7'1", 240 lbs. compared to jackson at 6'10", 206 lbs. yet Badji is just as quick and athletic and Badji is 1 year younger

There are so many of these circumstances where a late/non picked player has as much conceivable upside as a ranked player. I can’t remember another draft like this.

Yeah man, it's a crazy deep draft. So much talent. Especially with these international guys.

Someone who should enter NBA draft at age 21. Needs 2-3 yrs development. All the potential but rushing into the league before you're ready is a mistake too many make now.

Yall have some really dramatic takes on 18 year olds...and then we wonder why threads get bumped in the future. It's post that downplay these prospects who have obvious flaws but the lack of responsibility to further mention these things can be improved over time. I believe Ibou can make impact over time and development. I see Mitchell Robinson in his game, not a MVP type prospect but can be a contributing rotational player if he continues to develop all around. Athletic centers who play vertical with defensive potential will always be desired in the NBA.

not sure why you wouldn't take that guy with a pick in the 50s. not really much to lose, but a lot to gain if he pans out.

Yes, lots of intriguing international guys will have to wait till next year. Badji, Prkacin, Diop, Hukporti, Maker, etc.
